+kini_ont Posted February 13, 2010 Author Posted February 13, 2010 As we get ready for the games to begin, we need to remember the sacrifice these Athletes make to compete for Country, not only their time and money but as we see today sometimes even more. Nodar Kumaritashvili of Georgia has been killed during practice, let’s keep his family in our prayers. GOOD LUCK to all who are competing Well said, thank you.
Odyssey Voyager Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 (edited) wouldn't it be great to find this in your mailbox or geocache?! there is a nice story on these awesome olympic medals at this link: 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Medals Edited February 13, 2010 by Odyssey Voyager
+kini_ont Posted February 13, 2010 Author Posted February 13, 2010 This cointest is now locked, good luck to all competitors
+kini_ont Posted February 13, 2010 Author Posted February 13, 2010 Well the opening ceremonies are now a part of history and the first nation flag was that of the country that is the keeper and originator of the Olympics, Greece, who by the way has 3 Olympic athletes competing; so by my count , there were 15 countries that had only a single athlete in the competitions. Name the 15 countries and an Inuksuk Coin will be the reward. Rules, post answers here even if it may not be complete (help each other out) and later after I’ve returned from caching I will either declare a winner if all the countries named that I noted during the ceremonies that had a single athlete or I'll help in the cointest. This part of the contest is open to all
Odyssey Voyager Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 (edited) i watched the opening ceremonies last night. very cool. i love all the olympic tradition and celebration. even with the technical glitch, i thought the ceremony rocked! although i could probably name several nations with only 1 competing athlete off the top of my head, the information on all participating nations and number of athletes is available online and fairly easy to find if you google it. i'll let someone else post the winning answers. Edited February 14, 2010 by Odyssey Voyager
+GATOULIS Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Hmm..... shall we post here the answers?? I think Greece will participate with 7 athletes, but I am not so sure... and I think some are.... from the same family!!! Jamaica is back!!! I remember seeing a movie with Jamaicans first participation in the Winter Olympics! I loved that movie!!!

Well... I hope I am correct in these info!

+kini_ont Posted February 14, 2010 Author Posted February 14, 2010 All though Albania is listed as having 1 I don't remember them coming in as a separate team I believe they were combined with another - so no to Albania Same could be said of Tajikistan, Now I may have missed them but no matter cause I didn't note them - so no Tajikistan. Now in one possibly more the 2 were mentioned but no cutting off the list, all countries must be listed and Gatoulis is right in his hint and almost correct in his list.
+GATOULIS Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 I made some changes.... WOW! Albania and Tajikistan No? I do not know if they can be combined... carrying the flag of your country is something extremelly honored, so to be together with an other country... But... since I haven't seen the opening ceremony... HEre TV showed only the high jump... sorry I do not know the names of the sports.. I hope tomorrow they will show more!!! Algeria Cayman Islands Ethiopia ghana Hong Kong Israel Jamaica Mexico North Korea Chinese Taipei Senegal Portugal Pakistan Morocco Montenegro!!!
+GATOULIS Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 on the other hand.... (Albania) Algeria Bermuda Cayman Islands Colombia Ethiopia ghana Hong Kong Jamaica Mexico (Tajikistan) Chinese Taipei Senegal Portugal Pakistan Morocco Montenegro Most probably these were with one participant! I included Albania and Tajikistan too in my list so I went to 17! I just put them in a Parenthesis!
+GATOULIS Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 hey... I put Albania and Tajikistan in parenthesis because you said no in them, right? So my list has the 15, plus these 2! So, I hope this will count! I am curious in these 2 countries! I am sure they were in the parade, but not alone? I like many of the games in winter olympics! I hope Tv will show here some ice hockey, and Curling too, which I find it funny!!!

Congratulations Nikos, I know you address by heart now As for Albania, I watch the Greece Flag enter and then the next Flag was fro Algeria, so no to my knowledge Albania either did not qualify or did not send an athlete (which was why I send by my count, as I copied them down on a note pad)
+LadeBear68 Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Wow, the Canadian women are tough. It is 16-0 with 10 min to play.

+GATOULIS Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Thank you my friends! Thank you Ted for the cointest! Oh!!! so... Albania didn't sent his athlet to the opening ceremony! It is not so nice! I can understand that if the sport of the athlet is not now but in some days.... and because Albania is a poor country.... maybe they couldn't send him from the begining, but on the other hand... an Olympic game opening ceremony is the greatest event in the world at that time! Olympic games are the greatest event in the world.... so... it is a huge honor to show that you are participating, and a huge honor to hold your country's flag at that day!!! Millions are there to watch the event and the flags!!! Probably this crisis is.... So..you know my address by heart now? shall I choose an inuksuk color...? WOW!!! Canadian women's team is very strong... or Slovakian team very weak? 18-0 and there were still 7 minutes to go??? WOW! Ok, I know that Canadian team is one of the strongest teams!

Niko's, Do not worry Albania and Tajikistan both were represented by one Athlete. They were part of the Opening Ceremony, just seems the coverage from the networks is less than stellar. My Wife and I were discussing we remember when we were young.. OWWW Sorry when I was young she is still 29 That Olympic coverage was almost 24/7 and on every network seems now you have to hunt for many of the events. Congratulations again Edited February 14, 2010 by The Finding Irish 4

+GATOULIS Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 thank you Ted! I entered in the site! At first I couldn't see anything but then I saw that every sport has its own link! Oh boy!!!! there were many ice hockey games!!! I am wondering when they will show any here! Probably they will show the finals! till now I have seen Ski jumping, snowboard, figure scating and I think... biathlon! Of course.... not all... some parts! huh! Oh! there is a sport with the name Skeleton??? strange name!!! Is this the sport the Armenian guy died?? Ahhh!!!! Curling!!!! that's the name of this funny game with the ice brooms!!! I like this game!!!! WOW!! 13-1 with Sweden??? If I knew that Canada was playing with Sweden I wouldn't guess 12 goals!!! I thought Sweden was a good team! I am wondering if there is a good European ice hockey team in women!... probably not! hmm.... do you think so??? The guarters are lucky ones??? Maybe! hmm.... I have to go to a casino....
+GATOULIS Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 WOW!! Skeleton looks very dangerous!!!! I saw some photos.... Oh!!!! It looks like the opposite of the luge! Both are very dangerous!!! I would use the slow line... because that does not look safe. But... I guess that is why I am not destined for the Olympics. I mean could you imagine who came up with that idea. "I am going to get on a sled... ride on an icy half pipe ... on my stomache" ... ya great idea.
