What is the typical age of a geocacher?

I am 21 so is my GF both of us cache. I have a group of 6-8 friends (all between 21 and 25) that cache too. I tend to go to the events, but everyone else in my caching group does not. I think that the events tend to draw the older crowed which makes it seam like there are not as many younger cachers as there really are.

What would a typical cacher look like?

 

Geocaching is great for all ages, I would imagine most are over 20 and can afford transportation and electronics.

 

5'10" .... suspicious ... 40ish ... walking in circles ... twigs in hair = average

 

6'2" .... suspicious .... 22ish .... walking in circles .... twigs in hair = Me

It looks to me like that data could be flawed... just because the simple fact that the sample probably isnt indicative of the population. The people taking the poll were not randomly selected or anything... so you can't assume that the people whom answered the survey are anything like the people the people who geocache.

 

But... If I had to guess, I would say that most cachers are above 30.... just for the simple fact that a good GPSr is expensive... and that money could go towards alcohol. Just sayin'

We try of balance the average age out in our house. Im 42, wife is 43 and we balance it out with the kids Boy-child 12 and girl-child 16.

I think this is a cool topic, would like to see a mega event track ages and maybe a few events across th world and average it out from there.

I never claimed it was a scientific poll. I just thought the OP and others might be interested in seeing a larger sample size. Basically the sample would be very similar to the one in this thread - people who choose to identify their age and have an interest in knowing about other people.

Just noticed this board had a forum area, I have only gone through the cache locations around me!

 

Anyway, I am 31, haven't gotten the hubby into it, but my girls absolutely love it, they are 2, 6 and 8. My 2 year old thinks it is the best thing ever to find them and trade items

I'm 29x almost (29, 29a, 29b, 29c, 29d), but I've taken 85 year old folks out caching and babies in backpacks, but not my backpack, and everything in between, I'd say.

I am 28, my wife is 26, and we cannot get enough of this sport, as we are relatively new the sport we go every chance we can get.

 

We have been to a couple of events and were surprised that the average age seemed to be between 35 and 55. We had visions before we met any cachers that for some weird reason they were all in their twenties. It is great to see such a diverse age group enjoying the hobby.

Age depends alot on the area. When I went to a mega event in Wisconsin, most geocachers fell into the over 40 age bracket. However, here in Puerto Rico I would say most geocachers are under 30 (I'm 24 by the way).

I'm 34, and my 5 year old son is my caching partner. He signs the logs and decides what to trade.

We also go with a close friend of the family who is 65 years old.

That is one of my favorite things about caching.. age doesn't really matter.

Don't think I mentioned mini ninja #2 before. He's 7 and has his own account and signs logs. The eldest isn't interested in geocaching (though we drag him along sometimes) and the younger ones aren't old enough for me to want to give them accounts yet
