+ItisTrue Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I'm 23. Are most geocachers older rather than younger? Quote
+bittsen Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Without a clear example of "average" I can say with 100% confidence that most geocachers are older than 23 At the events I have gone to it looks like the average is around 40ish. Interesting how the average age of active adults is also 40ish. Quote
+Scrabble Dogs Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I am 26 and love the sport perfect for getting outdoors and away from the T.V Quote
knowschad Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Mental, or physical age? Forum poster, or not forum poster? Quote
+Team Cotati Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I'm 23. Are most geocachers older rather than younger? All of the ones that I have met are. Quote
+briansnat Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 (edited) Judging from what I've seen at events and from the people I know, I'd say the bulk of geocachers fall in the 30-60 age bracket. I'm seeing more and more teens caching these days and of course there are plenty of older people out there as well, but I wouldn't be surprised if 3/4 of cachers fell into that 30 to 60 bracket. +Cache O'Plenty Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I'd say it runs from mid-20's well into the 60's. Average around here seems to be 40-45. Me, 60. Quote
EWSmith Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I guess I break the mold, then, as I'm 18 years of age. Granted I only have 24 finds, but its hard for me to get out. I do so when I can, though. Quote
+awegwen Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 This is something I have always been curious of... too bad we cannot make polls on this forum... at least I don't see an option :-( flipjargendy = 25 years old. Quote
+Brantflakes Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I guess I'm winning at age 16 then. I started finding a lot more once I got my liscence. Quote
+rtyrie Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I'm 42. Judging from cachers I've met and gallery photos I've looked at, I would say the average age is probably 40-something. I've always wondered why younger cachers seem to be rare. Maybe they are so stealthy, that they go unseen? Quote
+cycler48 Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 62 here. The guys I've gone out with in the past are all older. I believe the three of them are between 64 and 66. Oh, and I can't forget the nice young lady that I recently introduced to geocaching ... 30. Quote
+atmospherium Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Based on my local observations, a large percentage of cachers are 40-somethings. Which is what I am. But I know of cachers as young as 5 and as old as 80. Quote
+tango501 Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 in metric years I am alot younger I sure dig the metric system Quote
+Wooden Cyclist Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I am 50. At an event to day I would guess that I was at about the median age. But among those of us who actually went caching afterwords, I was above the mean age. Quote
+Trucker Lee Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 What would a typical cacher look like? Geocaching is great for all ages, I would imagine most are over 20 and can afford transportation and electronics. Quote
+Chrysalides Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I can say with an extremely high degree of confidence that most geocachers are either older or younger than 23 (I guess this post places me as physically older than 23 with a mental age of about 6). Quote
+FancoverFive Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I guess I'm winning at age 16 then. I started finding a lot more once I got my liscence. I'm 15. Quote
+Mini-Geek Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I'm still a teen' as well. After a while of saving I bought a GPS and now I cycle to most caches! Quote
+copperdoc1 Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 30 years young! Keeps the legs in shape for mountain biking. Quote
+Dive-n-diva Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 68 here grand daughter 16 Does that make me the oldest? Quote
+Cachin'Armadillo Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 31 here...but most times I act much younger!!! My uncle (oldman60) will be 50 this summer...ohh...that means I have a party to plan!!! Bruhahahaha. Quote
+tamaral1 Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 (edited) I am 62 as is my wife. Her younger sister introduced us to geocaching - she is 61. We geocache with our grandchildren - all under 10 at this time. tamaral1 Edited January 31, 2010 by tamaral1 Quote

asdfni Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Seventeen here, but with fifty-year-old parents on occasion, because they're mad hikers and as big as kids as I am! Like everyone else has said before, I figure the majority are quite a bit older. I know for a fact that the few friends I've described this game to seem to have grown out of the "Scavenger Hunt" phase of life.... I like seeing people my age caching- just wish there were more ! Quote
+Tcaches Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I can say with an extremely high degree of confidence that most geocachers are either older or younger than 23 (I guess this post places me as physically older than 23 with a mental age of about 6). See ya in first grade then, because I almost wrote the same thing. I think lots of cachers are 40's-ish because we are more into hobbies that we control and can work into our schedule. I work weird hours and have a young child- a hobby that requires a set schedule just won't work for me. I can grab a cache when I have a few minutes on a workday or I can spend a few hours at it once in a while, or I can rush out at night when kiddo and hubby are sleeping. I like getting outside but I'm old enough to want to do it on my terms. Quote
+Opalblade Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 In my area most of the cachers at events look to be in their 40s and 50s. My caching friends and I are in the late 20s through early 30s range. Quote
+BlueDeuce Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 What would a typical cacher look like? Damp, dirty, worn out, gleam in their eye. Quote
+leejas72 Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I've been to one event and majority of those were 40ish. But in my group (family) we are 38,18,16,12, and 8. And we all love it. Quote

CacheCoeur Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 29 and 35 here... but sometimes I feel this is not a matter of age, but of which stage in the life cycle you're at (e.g. retired, empty nested, young couple with little kids) I haven't met many geocachers like us - young couple with no kids - anyone out there?
