+Team_Noodles Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 I love coins and I have set free over 70 of the critters. Yes I am disappointed that they go missing but I figure someone is enjoying them. I probably still have half of them floating about. When they don't get logged for 6 months I contact the last person that had it if it wasn't placed in a cache. If it was in a cache it's long gone and I mark the location as unknown. No I would like to retire some of these unknowns so they are off of my profile. Is that possible? Thanks in Advacne Quote
Firefly03 Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 I'm not sure if it is possible. I have a sock puppet account that I adopt all my missing coin to so that way they are not in my profile list. That's at least one thing you can do. Quote

I thought that sock puppet accounts were against Groundspeak policy? That would be cool to have one, that way I could post "needs archived" on some caches, or post things that CO's would not like and not have to worry about poor sports muggling my caches. I dropped one of my missing geocoins in a missing cache (GC9718), SOME locals do not want the cache archived because it is old, but they are not willing to maintain it. Why not use it as a grave yard for missing geocoins? Quote

Why not use it as a grave yard for missing geocoins? Creating a sock to do things you wouldn't be willing to do 'yourself' would be bad. Especially stirring things in the forums. Not sure where posting needs archived would fall, but personally I would just say man up. On the other hand I have a sock like firefly that I pushed a couple coins to. Thought I was going to release them, but later changed my mind and put them in the keep folder and don't really want the extra icons. Quote
Flying Spaghetti Monster Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Yes, sock puppets used to do things you won't do as "yourself" is frowned upon and can result in actions by Groundspeak (suspension of posting rights/site access/etc.). Using it to transfer coins is an option I suppose. The other option is to create a cache that you don't publish/submit (call it "<Cacher X's> coin retirement) and move those coins there. Finally, there is a thread in the Website section of these boards where somebody makes reference to a "locker" or "chest" or something similar where you can put activated coins that you don't want to show in your posession. If I can find the thread, I'll link to it - but you can go look there as well. Quote
+WRITE SHOP ROBERT Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 There is also a thread in the coin section where a player is accepting adoptions of missing coins, and releasing handmade Proxies. That would be one way to rid your profile of the baggage, and still have the tracking number serve it's use. Quote
+The Blorenges Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 There's no way to make your missing coins disappear completely because they all exist/have existed/had logs on them so they have to "be" somewhere... What I've done with a lot of mine that have gone MIA is to edit their name so that there's a Z before it. This means that all the missing coins drop down to the end of my inventory list e.g. Z Hug a tree today. It doesn't make them disappear but it means they're less noticeable. MrsB Quote

+ThGoonies Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 I have made a couple of proxies myself and am willing to take adoption of your missing coins. Quote
