Nuvi Battery Boosters

There are a lot of companies that offer these little battery boosters for cell phones. Just plug it in and you get an extra hour or so of talk time. Does anybody make one for the Garmin Nuvi?

The Nuvis have a standard mini-USB plug on them, don't they? If so, just buy a battery pack with a mini-USB connector on it and you're good to go.

The nuvi can't use just any usb battery pack because it requires a special cable with a certain resistor in it. I've created a battery pack for the nuvi so that the nuvi can run on AA's. Here's the writeup - http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=240601

I also mention in the writeup that there is one supplier that I know of that sells a AA battery pack for the nuvi (if you don't want to make mine, which will cost you about $7). They are $20 and can be found here - http://www.gomadic.com/garmin-nuvi-200-eme...y-extender.html

Good luck!

With my Nuvi 750, and probably others, there is trick to get it to switch from transfer mode to normal mode when powered from any USB source:

With the Nuvi showing the "computer to Nuvi" display, unplug the USB cable. After a short time the unit will start to reboot. When "Loading Maps ..." appears at the bottom, plug the USB cable back in. The Nuvi will continue to boot into normal mode.

The invisibleSHIELDs folks at Zagg, have a battery backup device they call the ZAGGsparq that I have successfully used on my 60Csx. It can't compete $$$ with the $7 diy backup, but Zagg did offer the unit to me for 1/2 price with free shipping ($50 tot). Very convenient, compact, and works great on the 60Csx, and other USB devices I have such as Zune.

Cheers,

Jim
