+jbravo
Hey guys, I've had a couple puzzle caches requiring the use of some mapping software. Basically I needed to draw circles with specific radii about several waypoints. The intersection of the circles was the final cache location. What software do you recommend (if any) for geocaching purposes? I use an iPhone so I already have maps available for driving directions and that sort of thing. I'm asking specifically regarding solving puzzle caches. Now...I'm looking for power and lots of features while still being user-friendly...ALSO - cheap is the main concern. I understand the inverse relationship between power/features and cheap. Thoughts? Quote Link to comment

+Chrysalides
I think I might have use Microsoft Street and Trips to do that before. You could also try calculating the intersection of two circles. Finally, you could attempt to estimate it by trial and error if you know how to do some coding. I'm not a Google Earth expert, but it sounds like something it should be able to do as well. Oh, and you might want to check ExpertGPS to see if it can do it. Edit : you can also check this post to see if there's information you can use. Edited January 16, 2010 by Chrysalides Quote Link to comment
+apulverizer
Well i am the owner of a cache which uses the triangulation methods of drawing circles and finding where all three overlap. I used Delorme Topo, but i suggested to some other caches that they use http://dev.bt23.org/keyhole/circlegen/ You may have to do some unit conversions but it will generate a circle kml file which can be imported to Google Earth. +J-Way
I personally use AutoCAD, but that's $$$$$$ engineering drafting software that I have at work. Delorme's Topo 8 will do it, but that's not cheap either unless you get it free with a PN-nn receiver (like my new PN-40). BUT, since you have a me-phone, you could try the Geocaching Toolkit. +StarBrand
I'd go straight to Microsoft Streets and Trips. Drawing circles is a snap. Quote Link to comment

I've heard of that, but didn't realize it did circles...thx for the tip! I'm downloading it now. Quote Link to comment
