+ecanderson
Seems that all anyone who has called Garmin has been told is that it supposed to "improve satellite acquisition". Vague enough? Quote Link to comment
+flattie
It adds the Garmin Hotfix data. After an initial satelite aquisition and almanac gathering, the cold start time is decreased dramaticly. It is well worth the update. Quote Link to comment

yogazoo
What update are you guys talking about? For which unit? Could you please be more specific? Quote Link to comment
+g-o-cashers
This page runs down which Garmin units have which chipsets, although it doesn't really distinguish between M and M2. I know that the Colorado I have uses type M (MediaTek MTK3318) http://www.gpspassion.com/fr/articles.asp?id=259 Quote Link to comment
+Red90
AFAICT, the M2 applies only to the etrex H series. Quote Link to comment
yogazoo
So if all the info in this thread is correct, the etrex M2 received a region file (HotFix) update and the Colorado didn't? Quote Link to comment

No. The Colorado is "M" and it received the Hotfix update at the same time (August 2009). http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=228531 Interesting, I just updated and there were two updates on my CO: Chipset Type M Chipset Type M HotFix Data Quote Link to comment
+ecanderson
So if all the info in this thread is correct, the etrex M2 received a region file (HotFix) update and the Colorado didn't? My eTrex Summit HC was updated to GPS FW 2.90 a while back, and I don't notice any appreciable difference in time to initial lock on 4 satellites. Did just now find a update to the operating firmware to 3.30 from 3.10. Don't think it requires that to enable the GPS FW, though - that was updated months ago - with 3.10? I don't recall a separate GPS firmware upgrade. Quote Link to comment
