Articun0
We're newbies and found our first geocoin yesterday. Its goal is this: "I would like it to visit other grandfather caches (4 letter/number caches)." Does that mean 4 digits after the GC? TIA! Quote Link to comment
+BRoKeN W
We're newbies and found our first geocoin yesterday. Its goal is this: "I would like it to visit other grandfather caches (4 letter/number caches)." Does that mean 4 digits after the GC? TIA! I think that would be 4 digits including the GC. The goal is for the coin to visit any of the oldest/active geocaches around. Quote Link to comment
Maine Family
Yep it would include the GC. The coin started in GCAE and it wants to visit other caches that only has 4 letters or numbers. Quote Link to comment
Articun0
Oh no! I was hoping it was GC plus four digits! Wish me luck! Edited January 3, 2010 by Articun0 Quote Link to comment

Articun0
Thanks, that link helps a lot - sort of. There is only one grandfather cache in Arizona, about an hour away. Not far by commuter standards, but with the 6 year old geocacher (the one who got me into this) and the one year old in tow, it becomes a bit of a logistical feat. Not to mention the fact that the cache entails a trek through open desert. Sounds like just the kind of way we like to spend a morning! I'll post whether we end up making it all the way out there or end up depositing it at a site closer to the goal. Thanks Maineiac for your handy sleuthing, and BRoKeN W for the link. Another option is to try getting it directly into the hands of another player that can make the trek for sure. It could be fun finding the right person. Quote Link to comment

I ran a pocket query based on the center of arizona and here are the 4 digit active grandfather caches. There are some in utah, colorado, new mexico, and califonia and dependeng on where you are they might be closer Try GC7B, GCED, GC57, GCFE, GC7E these are all in arizona and active according the query I ran Quote Link to comment
+teamhaynes
I found a grandfather caches bookmark... grandfather caches Quote Link to comment
+fuzziebear3
And remember, you don't have to get the coin to its goal cache, just along the way. If you are planning to go to a grandfather cache, that's great. If not, drop the traveler in another cache so another player can have a go at it. Eventually it will get there. Quote Link to comment
Articun0
That does help a lot Team Hayes. One of those is in a city park only 20 minutes from my house, now I just need to figure out how far of a hike off the road. Thanks! One more question for those of you who have done this awhile. How long is it considered OK to sit on the geocoin? We've had this one for 3 days and probably won't get to deposit it until the weekend. Is that within the acceptable range? I'm off to buy my premium membership . . . Quote Link to comment
+fuzziebear3
Up to a couple weeks is fine. If you need to hold it longer, it is nice to drop a note to the owner. Quote Link to comment
