aliandtone
We are going to be in Sutton In Ashfield / Alfreton / Matlock for the new year and wondered if fellow cachers would be able to recommend any interesting caches in the area or things to do? Many thanks in advance Edited December 28, 2009 by aliandtone Quote Link to comment
Happy Humphrey
You could do worse than look through the portfolio of John NW. John + Carol (now, sadly minus Carol) set a lot of very unusual and creative caches in the area (I've found quite a few and I know the town and area extremely well). IainLee
So HH. What's the story. Sorry but you've opened up the question. Quote Link to comment
Happy Humphrey
I also know several other areas very well (Isle of Wight, for instance). I've been around a bit... But I'll be in Mansfield on 9th January (unless the weather is too bad!). My family live in the area (Mansfield-Nottingham-Matlock). Another useful link for the Matlock area; Guide Stoops Also, look out for the C.O.D. caches (this one is an example). Quote Link to comment
angellica
My mind has gone blank (no comments please ) I would recommend looking out for John NWs caches (as HH mentioned) Darrach has set a few which are unusual hides. If you fancy something slightly further afield, you can't go wrong with Clumber Number 3 It is set in Clumber Park (NT Property) which is beautiful at any time of year - but busy. This cache is set in one of the quieter areas. Of course, SIA is well placed for access to the Peak District. There are cats-eyes excellent series of Guide Stoops, Sites of Meaning and Curiosity of Derbyshire. Quote Link to comment
reddeeps
I am reading this with interest as well as we have 4 nights in the travelodge in mansfield after easter as I want to do the heights of abraham, and then some caching. Quote Link to comment
aliandtone
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Never heard of the term guide stoops before and hope to check out a few. Reddeeps, we too are staying at Travelodge! Reviews are good :-) Edited December 31, 2009 by aliandtone Quote Link to comment

aliandtone
Due to the snow and not all of the roads being salted we were forced to postpone some of our geocaching however we did manage to pop into ukgeocachers shop, say hello and pick up some goodies :-) Edited January 3, 2010 by aliandtone Quote Link to comment
