+brizicurn Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 Merry Christmas everyone...I got my hubby a Garmin Oregon 200 for being such a good hubby Is it necessary to download maps to the GPS, and if so I recall several posts about free downloadable maps. Can anyone provide the site addresses for me please? I've looked through posts to no avail. You all are the best. Jenny Quote
+StarBrand Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 Maps are not necessary at all for Geocaching use but can make it a bit easier. www.gpsfiledepot.com for the free maps. I have one of those units - enjoy!!! Quote
+ras_oscar Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 for routable street maps you can also try Open Street maps. Doesn't support IE, but other browsers are available. I use firefox. Quote

Radtke Family Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 (edited) Okay, I have a question. I bought a Garmin etrek Vista HCx, No maps, no memory card. I downloaded the Routable Street maps off that site. Now what? Can they get loaded on my GPS, or do I need something else? I really just want some simple street maps for my state so I can better navigate while Geocaching. Help! Edited December 27, 2009 by slradtke Quote

The unit can access up to a 4GB mapfile, so a larger than that datacard is a bit of a waist. Edited December 27, 2009 by coggins Quote
oakenwood Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Routable street maps are good for using in the car, but on the trail, you'd probably prefer a topo map. Quote
