Commemorative Survey Markers

I organized the web site you found. Quite a few more have been set since the web site was created about 2 years ago. Just yesterday I was talking to our field surveyor that has been setting most of these commemorative marks. He has photos on the new ones but they are not yet on-line. Also, I don't know if all of the marks on the web site have been surveyed. So, some may not yet be in the database. All that said, these are beautiful marks, many of them are about 12 inches in diameter, and most are one-of-a kind.

Some may not be in the database? I didn't think any of them were in the database. Number 1 (I assume it was the first to be set) at the site of the old Calais Observatory in Maine, was surveyed in 2005 and I don't see it in the data base yet. I just did a radial search around the Observatory location and found only the flag pole on the nearby school.

Here's the disk:

And here's the data sheet search output:

I know Curt Crow's crew spent a few days there doing a GPS series so I assume all the data are in hand.

Are any of the others known to be in the database?

Here is one that I saw on vacation this summer. It's located at a place called Lands End, on the western end of Grand Mesa in Colorado. Quite a view from up there. Location is approximately N 37 01.522 W 108 13.469 View southward, lots of haze unfortunately. Yes, I know, I didn't clean off the debris, sorry :D

That's DE5174, set by NOAA.

North Carolina also has commermorative markers. This is DI3832, near Clayton.

In addition, North Carolina has an impressive "Center of Population" marker, and we have been promised that, somewhere in the state, a benchmark in the near future will be stamped GEOCAC.

Is there rough coordinates for the Oceans in View marker that anyone has?

There was construction and something being added when we were at Cape Disappointment Light House.

That view is from there I believe.

I will look for the pictures and coordinates.

I think there was a cache at that point as well.

I may have added some images on nearby benchmarks but can't remember right now.

It is called the Lewis and Clark Visitor Center.
