mcrow33
I now have a iPod Touch 3G, and I also have a Garmin eTrex Vista Cx. I was wondering if anybody knows of a way to connect the two. I would like to be able to send the GPS information to the iPod Touch and use the iPod larger screen to view maps and charts. The next best thing would be a GPS module that connects to the iPod Touch, but since I already have the GPS and connection cable would do. Quote Link to comment
NordicMan
What's an iPod Touch 3G? I doubt you'll be able to connect those 2 units directly to each other, but while at home you should be able to separately load both units with the same cache details.. using GSAK and whatever Apple is using for their products(?) Ken in Regina
Does the Vista Cx connect by USB? If not, forget it. Does the Touch 3G have a USB connection? If not, forget it. Is it a Host connection or slave (big connector or mini connector)? If it's a mini connector, forget it. If there's some way to make a USB connection with the Touch as the Host device, then you could look around to see if there's an app that will accept GPS signals from the USB port. ...ken... +Garry Owen
I doubt if two different companies (with different products) would share their technology "secrets" to develop such a device for a very, very, very small market. Quote Link to comment
Motorcycle_Mama
The iPod Touch does not have 3G in the way of phone service. My guess is that the OP is asking about the Third Generation model iPod Touch (sometimes denoted as 3G.) There is no way to have it communicate with an eTrex, unfortunately. I do believe, however, that the iPod Touch with the 3.0 firmware will support a GPS puck via Bluetooth or a compatible GPS receiver via the bottom Apple connector.
