+Team Van Stoffelen
Welcome to this mega ‘MOAC’ cointest topic. In this topic I will have organize three different cointests at the same time and one just after these three have ended. And, as if that is not enough, there will be a bonus price for one of you who have entered all four cointests. But first some rules. I am the one and only judge. As this topic is for geocachers of all ages we will keep it nice and child friendly. Anyone can play as many times in as many cointests as you want, but only one entry per post for one of the three cointests per post. In other words, your entries should not be three in one post. And these are the first 3 cointests: These first three cointests will end on Sunday December 13th 2009 20.00 CET. 1. What would you do for a coin? Please let us know what you are willing to do just to win a geocoin in this cointest. Remember, winning this cointest equals doing what you have promised in your answer. 2. This year is almost coming to an end. So please show us your most beautiful, sad, funny, tragic or epic picture you took while you were out Geocaching this year. Please do tell us the story that goes behind the picture. 3. Show and tell us your hobbies other then geocaching and collecting geocoin. Make sure you tell us all a convincing story, show us a photo or drawings. I know ‘stamp collecting’ can be fun, but only these two words won’t make you a winner in this cointest. And here is cointest 4 (contributions must be send to my emailaddress) The fourth and cointest will begin around Sunday December 13th 2009. 4. Cointest 4 will be based on your childhood photographs. We all are very curious about how we all looked like when we were kids, so please send your childhood photograph to Team Van Stoffelen at cointest{AT}Huiberts.info. I will transform these photo’s into a new and extra cointest that will be online just after the first three cointests have ended. Happy cointesting and have fun! +Turlutortue
Cointest #1 To win a geocoin I would make an original display, hand made of course to the coin theme. I would trade 2 coins for 1 depending of the coin to win BUT I prefer doing something original and handmade Quote Link to comment
+Turlutortue
Cointest #2 This episode of my brief geocaching experience happened during spring time, with geohubby You Ke Té, lots of mud and puddles in the trails, LOTS and LOTS of mosquitos chasing us and even stinging us in our hands, ears and faces (we sprayed ourselves for those hungry beasts and still...). We had to get up a tree , like a monkey to retreive a cache (bee hive- not a real one!). We had to hurry to sign the log and placing it right back in order to minimize the time we were standing still and get away from the mosquitos. Quote Link to comment
+Team Van Stoffelen
Do we have to put all 3 cointest entrances in this topic? Yes, this is the 4 in 1 mega cointest topic! And yet, it sure will be chaotic. Quote Link to comment
+Turlutortue
Cointest #3 My world is FIMO polymer clay. I started, 12 years ago in a course for making jewelry, I didn't know it was with that medium. I fell in love imidiately! Now, I have my own little company making pacifier holders, nursery decor, home decor, knitting needles, Christmas ornaments and lots more. This hobby helps me escape from daily troubles and worries. +catsnfish
I will add my others entries in a few days. #3 the hobby. Some here in the forums may know that prior to geocaching I was an American Civil War reenactor for about 10 years. During that time, I “served” in the 3 major branches of the 1860’s U.S. army, artillery, cavalry and infantry. I also learned to make many of the uniform and gear items that were used by soldiers of the period, including a complete saddle and tack made beginning with a tree from a 1904 military saddle tree. My unit and several others across the country were given opportunities to work on several motion pictures as background extras. I worked for a week on the movie “Glory” starring Denzel Washington about the 54th Massachusetts regiment of Colored Soldiers. A few years later I again had the opportunity to work on a movie, this time as a cavalry soldier in “Dances with Wolves” these were great experiences and the memories will always bring a smile to my face. Five of the 10 years I was active in reenacting, I was an officer for our unit. I gained respect for those who serve in that role in real life. I was quite proud of my “men” and their performance in drill and the reenacted battles we took part in. In all of my time reenacting I am most proud of having worked with the Medal of Honor Historical Society to place and dedicate special markers at the graves of 4 recipients of the Medal from the Civil War and to have commanded the Honor Guard for those heros. One of the toughest times was when I commanded the Honor Guard at the funeral of one of our members. Although a veteran of the U.S. armed forces and entitled to the military’s Honor Guard, he requested we fire his final salute. Tears poured from my eyes as I presented his widow with our nations flag and the gloves I had worn only once, as I “gave her away” at their period wedding, several years earlier. Although I am not a veteran I do have a deep appreciation of the sacrifices made by those who have served and the camaraderie shared by members of military units, because of my experiences as a reenactor. +catsnfish
One of the most Beautiful spots on an epic caching run over the course of 6 days in western Nebraska. 2400 miles and picking up 75 of Nebraska's 93 counties for the county challenge. It is also one of the saddest as I may never be able to share this location as an EarthCache due to pending changes in that program. Quote Link to comment
+catsnfish
Okay, I guess i have done these in reverse order. #1 What I would do to win a geocoin in this cointest would be to write and publish an article extolling the virtues and generosity of the geocoin collectors and designers, those who run cointests and those who band together to support and help their fellows in this community. I will try to do so without run on sentences like the last one I'll go so far as to publish any other article sent in on the same topic or any other geocaching topic. Quote Link to comment
+drneal
#2 This picture was taken at EMGT – East Otto – Adventures in Sculpture Park! It was one of the last of the day for j-lad and I. The crab points the way to the cache, and Logan and Heineken decided to get a better view. This is the last picture I have of Logan...he enjoyed his "walks in the woods" with Heineken and I, and is thought of, and missed. I usually don't bother with pictures while I'm out looking for caches, but couldn't pass up the picture...I'm glad I have it to share! ILYKAL Quote Link to comment

mud4x4
Cointest #3: I collect/work on cars as a hobby. Unique and unusual cars. This is one of my favorite, as my late-father got me into VW's and off-roading. He use to take me in his cage buggy when I was younger. With no windshield, eating bugs along the way. Before he passed away he helped me do all the major restoring on this dune buggy. I would never sale it...it means too much to me. I finished it up in his memory. Later I found out that it is a quite rare body style. This picture was taken shortly after he passed away. This is just one of my hobbies - as I also love horse back riding, miniature horse driving and paintball. Here is my daughter hitching a ride with my miniature horse driving. +GATOULIS
Oh boy..... Mega cointest.... Cointest 1: what would I do for a coin... well.. I do not know... I am shy, but I did the chicken dance when I got the cowboy chicken!!! I do not know what I would do... in some things none knows what he can really do for something he really wants!!! What shall I write??? Well... maybe you will have to name something I have to do to win a coin, I will hope I can do it!! Quote Link to comment
+GATOULIS
Cointest 2: Oh.... well... I had writen in the online geocacher about epic stories that happent to us while we were geocaching, and I am writing one now (when I have some time... I hope I will finish it soon), about a day that everything went bad, but I will post here photos to show you something I found while geocaching Yesterday and scared me so much!!!!! If I had a coin to give for a cointest I would made one but none would guessed what I found!!!! Well.. the story goes like that... Yesterday we went to a place to collect some wild fruits that we call "koumara"! I think you call them strawberry trees! In the area there was a cache so I went to visit it! Everything was fine! Of course, my parents, my sister and my brother in law, stayed to collect these fruits, and they were far away from me! they called me in my mobile that they were going some hundrends of meters away to collect more, so I had to go back! Well... I told them that I would walk! I wanted it so... The whole place is close to a military area where the army is making exersises with real weapons... I mean they are firing there with canons, mortars, grenades and whatever else.... When I was in the army I did that too! the distance was big and before I reach them, (I could see them), I wanted to go to the toilet... Well.. I was on the road so I just went near to the road.... I was inside the military area where it had signs that it was not allowed to go, but the main road was there and I was only 2 meters away from the road! Then I saw something that...scared me so much that I forgot that I needed a toilet!!!! Because of the rain, the earth had opened creating a passage for the water... there was no water anymore, but since the earth was washed up, something came up!!!! What??? Many mortar shells!!!!! Jesus!!! Most of them were burried and only some parts were visible! I counted more than 50 -60 and only God knows how many where still covered!!! I do not know if they are still ok! In some, the front part is missing but.. I think that when you throw a mortar shell, the main part breaks into pieces.... Anyway... I did something extremelly stupid!!!!! I picked up 2 and saw the date and if they were used!!!!! Sometimes, I am so stupid!!!! One mortar shell had the date 1944 and the other 1953!!!! So... some are from WWII????? I cleaned the back side where they get he hit when they are used, but they didn't have anything! They were not used!!!! I put them back on the earth...and took some photos! these photos show only some of them!!!! In the 3rd photo you can see the 2 I took in my hands for some time!!!!!! I played with my life there.... Some may not have the front part, but they may be full of explosives!!! I do not know... I hope someone will know! I do not know what to do.. shall I comunicate with the Army?? There is a possibility that they are WWII relics... from the dangerous ones... Since they are so close to the main road... things may become danerous for civilians.... Quote Link to comment
+GATOULIS
Cointest 3: Are you sure you want me to post here???? Well... you asked for it!!! I collect many things!! I like fossils, pterified wood, petrified seashells... And I hope one day to find a petrified leaf, an animal (in my dreams), or amonites, trilobites..... The big piece of petrified wood is a gift from WSR, and I thank him soooooo much!!!! most of them are seashells becasue Rhodes was under the sea.... These are from the top of mountains in Rhodes!! Probably my best fossil is this one... The black thing is probably a petrified date (?)... you can see something like the outer thing of the date (the while oval thing on the rock), near it! I also collect Militaria things, small parts like medals, pins, badges, buttons, belts... and if I get lucky, bullets, rings (I have an italian with Mussolini and a broken one from a gErman soldier with a ship and airplanes) or small pieces from the 2 wars or from nowdays! I also have some patches... see.. I have one from San Diego police!!! Some are german, some Italian, some Russian, some Greek... and I have a Danish and a Dutch badge too! In the photo you can also see with my militaria things, other medals, like sport medals, civilian medals, and church medals... I also collect coins, tokens (everything.... like super market ones, casino tokens ofr slot machines, casino chips, or mardi grass (I hoipe I wrote it correctly...I have only 1) ) and banknotes! In banknotes food cupons are included too!!! Since it is not possible to show you my collection.... (I need many photos...), here are some coins and tokens (The coins are silver Dutch ones since Rian is from the Netherlands) and some banknotes... the coins are from some provinses of the Netherlands of the 18th century, a Fricia one 60 gross from 1618, and a coins from the Netherlands from 19th century! The banknotes are French Assignats from the 1792- 1793, the Revolution times! Sorry if the phtos are not so good! I took them with my mobile! At last... I... play volleyball and beach volley!!! paganfrog
for cointest #3 i have had many hobbies throughout my life. i have collected various items like stickers, erasers and badges, i have been a philatelist and have on and have kept nice postcards that have been sent to me during my teen years and again since my late 20s. you could say i have the heart of a magpie because there has never been a time that i havent had a collection of on thing or another. my very first and longest surviving collection of of frog ornaments. my uncle gave me a little plastic frog when i was 5 years old. and because of that i became a fan of all things amphibian. i have quite a collection of frog ornaments around the house. i have frog ornaments from various countries, like the uk, france, germany, corfu-greece, etc. (if you find an attractive frog ornament from your country that you feel should go in my collection i will gladly accept, lol) apart from my frogs, i love to collect geocoins and pathtags (duh. obviously heheh) i also like to collect and keep any nice little trinkets and siggy items that i find in geocaches (rarely cos i dont go out caching much and mostly the caches have the usual junk thats rusty and broken) as a result from recently setting a new geocache hotel in my area(well i have to feed my addiction of another collection of mine which is collecting the coin icons) i stumbled over an old glass bottle. its not an antique bottle though, it turns out this area was a landfill site done in the 50s so i had found a 1950s glass baby feeding bottle. this revived an old interest that has lain dormant since i was about 10. i have always been interested in bottle dump digging for antique bottles, and also real treasure hunting with a metal detector. so with my dormant and ignored interested revived i have started visiting websites and forums for bottle dumps and treasure hunting and started to learn about it more. i am eagerly awaiting my metal detector that i recently bought to arriveso i can start to use it an explore.....legally. i really do get angry when i read about irresponsible and greedy treasure hunters who have no respect for private properties and protected historical heritage, or even nature. i dont like thievery or disrespect to private owned land or to ruin the look of nature by leaving big holes dug everywhere. anyway i have started to waffle a bit here. i could write lots here but then there would be nothing left to say for the future. paganfrog
cointest #1 hmmmm this is hard i cannot think of anything worthwhile. the only thing i can think of doing if i won the cointest is to leave one of my personally made pathtags in a public place for a non geocacher to find in the hope that they will log their find. i take a photo of me putting it in public place and leaving it there, and if it gets logged i would post on here to tell about it. either that or i would do something that team van stoffelen suggests Quote Link to comment

+drneal
#3 Martial Arts remains an important hobby for me....as I continue to get older, Tai Qi has become a more "user friendly" form....most of my training is Yang style, but training in wu, some sun and chen. Broad sword with sensai Though a gentle form, care must be taken during practice, or accidents can happen! Tai chi sword I also like to scuba dive (but don't get a chance too often...all cold water diving in PA., and I hate putting on a wet suit. The picture is real...I was able to feed sharks during what was called a "shark experience" while on a trip in Curacao...what you can't see is the sheet of plexi-glass between me and the shark...there was a little hole to wiggle fish through . Smaller fish are also a hobby, but I don't have to worry about them eating me...just the opposite! I appreciate this cointest...I've run a couple requiring pictures of cointestants...it's nice to be able to put faces with geocaching names...thanks! ILYK Quote Link to comment
+catsnfish
Another hobby! this was one that I spent a fair amount of time doing PG (pre geocaching ) Tablet Weaving! Decades ago, I had an interest in buckskinning, (that led into the Civil War reenacting) and I liked to make my own items. Doing a bit of research in pre internet days i made a crude inkle loom and used it to weave sashes. and garters. Many years later when pondering what to make my oldest son for Christmas I happened to remember how much I enjoyed weaving and decided he should have a loom. This time I used autocad to design it and made a much nicer one than when I was a teenager. In the course of researching different looms I came across tablet weaving, using cards with holes to weave patterns into narrow bands. These bands could be used to trim clothing, make suspenders dog leashes etc. The first project was a leash one inch wide made from cotton threads. it was really stout and pretty too. By turning the cards in different directions between passes of the cross threads (weft) patterns can be made this type of weaving is different on the back side. Ok Time to make another type of loom and start more projects, the next was a tubular leash made from nylon threads. I haven't decided what to do with my latest project since it isn't finished yet from 3 years ago Hey we been caching!! Quote Link to comment
+toadjumper
Cointest #2 Okay, this cache I was at, "The Poppy Fields", GC11WZ6, was a special one for me. While I was deployed in Afghanistan this past year, I was fortunate enough to be able to do some caching on some of the bases I went to as the team I was on traveled over the southern part of the country. For those of you who may have been keeping up on the news, the southern part of Afghanistan, to include the provinces of Kandahar, Helmand, and Zabul, are some of the most hotly contested pieces of land over there. This cache is located on a Canadian camp near the district of Arghandab, which sees more than it's share of action. Located behind me in this picture, even though you can't tell very well, is a giant rock mural depicting the Canadian flag. In front me, are stones painted to remember Canadian soldiers who have lost their lives while fighting against the Taliban, and securing the freedom of not only the Afghans, but all of us around the world. This monument was extremely special to me since one of the markers was for a Canadian soldier who was killed on my birthday last December, one day after we had dropped him off at the camp. Although I didn't get to know him very well in the few hours he rode with us to the camp, he was impressed my team and I as being a very good guy. The truly sad part is that he had just returned from 2 weeks of vacation back in Canada the day before. So there you have it. The story behind the picture for this cache. A bittersweet moment, but a great place for a cache. And as most caches in Afghanistan say, "only the Afghans are here forever." If you were able to see the full text of what is written on the rock in front of me, it would read, "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them." Quote Link to comment

I would hide a cache here in Germany for you (the container, logbook, items etc. I will buy, of course), you are the owner and publish it and Groundspeak will allow it, because you tell them that I will take care of it and be there in case the cache needs maintenance. paganfrog
for cointest #1 i would wear make up. the full works - lippy, mascara, an nail varnish. i say this because i absolutely despise make up i have never worn it voluntarily. the rare time i have worn the face crud i had to be pinned down by my sisters so that they could apply it on me for a wedding when i was made to be a bridesmaid (double shudder). and then again 3 years ago when i got married and my sister insisted that i should wear make up as it would look nice. i wasnt in a fighting off mood at that time does to being very unwell with morning sickness, but i showed my displeasure by grimacing and grumbling at her. +sterni2009
Another picture for cointest 2. This was one of the coolest caches I have ever found. The cache is the roadsign! It is a real roadsign! You can turn it down and then you see the "cache sign" "geocacher xing" and have a little logbook. On the photo there's me and my friends I cache with. We searched for the cache on the whole street, walls etc. until one of us checked the roadsign. And there it was - the cache! Unfortunately some neighbours discovered cachers while finding the cache and called the police. The cachers who where at the cache when the police came were very angry because answering the questions of the police etc.took several hours. The whole police action was a real big deal in our community here, everybody talked about it. The cache had to be closed and the owner was told to make the roadsign a normal roadsign again. The owner did so and placed the cache and the cool cachesign and the loogbook under another roadsign. Well, that kind of cache was so extraordinary and surprising and we all loved it so that we took a photo with a delayed-action shutter release. We loved that cache!!! Please click on the photo to see it in fullsize. Edited December 7, 2009 by sterni2009 Quote Link to comment
+GATOULIS
Cointest 2: Here is aa photo of me and my father on the top of the tallest mountain in Rhodes, where a cache is! I am loging my visit as you can see, and my father holds the cache! It is a rare photo that I love, not only because you can see 2 generations (father & son) in geocaching, but because it has snow!!!! This is very rare in Rhodes!!!! I remember that when we went up, it was so cold.... I couldn't feel my hands and I couldn't write in the log book or close the cache!!!! Of course the good thing was that the weather at that day was fine! We were up an other time but we coudn't reach the cache and it was extremelly cold! We were in the clouds, the moisture was huge, everything was frozen and had ice on them, and the temperature.... -16C !!!! See the column? It shows the highest point up there, so... the highest point in whole island!!! Quote Link to comment

+Team Van Stoffelen
In the topic 4 in 1 Mega Cointest Topic I invite you all to join cointest 4. This cointest will start about next sunday. It would be very nice if there would be a little more photo's to get the cointest up and running. So I you can and want, please send your geocaching name and childhood picture to the emailaddress above. Please do not reply below. Quote Link to comment
