Oh, it's not that bad!! No one has the dates, and I'm sure no one cares. We were able to add background music to cache pages until I'd say 2005 or 2006 maybe, using an HTML tag. The ablility to do so was removed. You could try using the HTML tag to do it (I forget what it even is), but it will be stripped out of your cache description when submitted. You may have "seen it", because cache pages that used it were "grandfathered", and it would remain until the cache page was ever edited. But I think they even killed that at some point. Speaking as someone who had a 10K .wav sound of a flushing toilet on a toilet related cache. So of course you can post a link to any music you want still, I guess. Quote Link to comment

Nothing beats a puzzle cache linked to a MySpace page - make sure you use vibrant, primary colours, set text colour to hot pink and have the audio play automatically.. no-one wants to waste time messing around with fiddly flash audio controls and volume settings! It's not offensive in itself, but having to hear music playing while I'm looking at a cache page is just noise. I happen to be listening to something on my PC right now. I'm with Monkey Junky on this one... Why is the idea of music on a cache page loathed so much? I can understand that some folks might not particularly like a certain choice of music but why does the idea seem to provoke such a strong negative reaction? When we started caching I recall that there were maybe half a dozen caches in UK that had instant music when you opened the cache page. One page for a cache hidden in/near the ruins of an old church played plain song which was quite appropriate, another one in the west of England played this lovely ditty: MrsB Edited to add: I just had the ditty playing the other tab when MrB came in and said, "Why are you listening to that?" When I explained the relevance to this discussion he just said, "Oh noooooo! No music on cache pages! Please! - think of the poor reviewers!" At first, it was midi files, and those were probably the worst. Myspace is just perpetuating the problem by making it too easy for people to do that. There exists plenty of functionality to allow people to start the music on their own. Make use of it. I am also listening to my own mp3 collection right now. To think if something totally different started playing automatically on page load...ugh. But to think, this is also why I keep my speakers off unless I want to use them. There are still songs and ads and videos that start playing on page load. Ugh. Quote Link to comment

First and foremost is that a music file takes a long time to load and if the page isn't coded correctly doesn't allow the page to display until the music file is downloaded in its entirety. Second is that if I am in a setting such as work or a library and music starts to play it is invasive and sometime startling. If you have some music you want to play on a page set a button that I can click to play it. That way I can turn down my speakers, put on headphones or what ever other measures I deem appropriate. Suddenly: JINGLE BELLS JINGLE BELLS JINGLE ALL THE WAY! Blairs over my speakers and into every cube in our department. Or... maybe it's SBell111's newest family member... finally, FINALLY went to sleep. SBell111 decides to open your cache page: JINGLE BELLS JINGLE BELLS JINGLE ALL THE WAY! Just don't. OK? An email (possibly from a coworker that you consider to be a "friend" LOL!) comes through with either a link, or an attachment.
