DaveD
Below is a note that was just posted at NGS this morning. It allows you access to a Webinar about the development of heights using Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology (e.g. GPS, GLONASS, Galileo etc.) The program was given in two 4-hours sesssions, this is the first one. Some parts may be more technical than you care for, but it does have some good background on datums and monumentation that some of you may find interesting. *Hot off the presses, er, ftp site!! *Here is a link to the first part of the recent /GPS-Derived Heights/ webinar, given by Dave Doyle and Bill Henning: ftp://ftp.ngs.noaa.gov/pub/corbin/articul...erived_heights/ (click on 'player.html', no need to open the other files, and click 'ok' to any error messages). Make sure your speakers are on, or your headphones are plugged in! Quote Link to comment
holograph
Thanks, Dave. I watched the whole thing and found it interesting and informative. I also learned how to correctly pronounce some acronyms and words that I have been mentally mispronouncing. Quote Link to comment
+billwallace
Thankyouverymuch. So .. if you can find a bench mark that has a NAVD 88 height equal to (and opposite) the GEOID height then the mark is ON the ellipsoid?.. cool, there is one in the county, I've never stood on a mathematical construct before. .
