Geocache Icons indicating they are fun for kids

Does anyone know how to tell by the icons if the geocache is a great one for kids. The "hidden treasure" at the end of the hike is great if it holds what they consider "treasure". Is there a way to tell if the cache has kid items in it?? Or is geared toward kids??

What a cache starts with, and what you find in it when you find it, are two different things (most times).

Other than what you read in the description, and in the logs, you really have no idea what swag you'll find.

The whole sport is supposed to be kid friendly. If you go after the larger caches, they have more room for more treasure. A cache like a micro may be to small to hold treasaure

There is a "Recommended for kids" attribute, but it is generally based on the hike, terrain, or location.

 

If you're looking for caches with "hidden treasure" for the kids, then your best bet is to search for larger caches in kid-friendly locations.

Even if a cache page specifically states it is a kid-friendly cache, there is always the possibility that subsequent swaps are not so kid-friendly.

 

I know what *you* mean by kid-friendly - swaps that kids would actually like.

 

Kid-friendly is a sparkly bracelet or a matchbox car.

 

Non-kid friendly is a box of matches, a folding knife, water-purifying tablets, a lottery scratchie, etc. All of which I have seen in caches, and all fairly appropriate for the location.

 

Middle-of-the-road is a deck of cards, a hi-lighter, emery boards, a screwdriver, etc. Even though they are all perfectly harmless, they are boring to an 8 year old.

 

Most caches have the middle-of-the-road swaps. How about you teach your kids that you get what you get. Anything exciting you find is a bonus.
