washignton state geocoins?!?

I'm new to the game and geocoin have caught my eye. Being a record collector I was drawn to geocoins rather quickly. With geocoins, I'm not quite after the rare versions or complete collections(yet), but I am into the idea of having at least one of every one ever made, lol. Being so new, I continue to see new Washington state based coins every day. Here are a few, if anyone has any more to add to this list, I'd love to keep a somewhat legit history/accounts of coins hailing from this lovely state. Minting history and numbers would be awesome too, just for the sake of having it all in one place. Even if you don't have pictures, I'd be happy to hear about them.

I'm obviously on the hunt for many of these coins, but I can't afford to drop a ton of money right now, though I wish I could because I'm not sure how often this stuff comes up via eBay or the forums. But yeah, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Dustin

You have quite the endeavor ahead of you.

The first two on your link are the first two WSGA coins from 2004 and 2005. Neither were trackable on GC.com (it wasn't an option then) but were trackable on the old WSGA site but that has not continued on the new site.

Trackable on GC.com with its own icon.

I'll post others as I find the pictures.

I'll post a few of the pictures that I have taken. I'd like to take better ones sometime, but these work.

These five coins are the 2007 WSGA geocoins, that had five different coins to represent the different chapters. These are trackable on gc.com.

You can click on them if you want to see them bigger:

Nice pics. How did you make them? (lighting, etc) I tried to make some and failed miserably.

Sorry I didn't get right back to this thread! Here's my lengthy response :) :

Some of the previous photos were made with natural light (ambient sunlight), and some were also lit with an overhead light. I prefer natural, because it doesn't shine on the coin as much. I don't have fancy lights, which would be nice. I have a fairly nice point and shoot camera, with a good micro setting. I try to get as close as I can to the coin, without shadowing it. If there's an overhead light, I might take a paper or something to cover up the most extreme glare from the coin. Having the camera slightly off and not straight overhead helps with shadowing.

But now, I take the geocoin pictures on my window sill. I have a sill that is in my dining room, with bright indirect light. That really helps me to get closer without creating a shadow. The WSGA coins were taken on my dining room table, which I think is distracting. Now that I'm using the window sill, I have a black backing that I put underneath the geocoin to create a nuetral background (then darken that to flat black in photoshop).

Here are some photos using the new technique:

Sorry if we took this off topic, as these last two photos aren't Washington State geocoins! I'll post some more WA coin pictures when I can. :D

I think between what the OP already had on his website and what we've done here, all the 'official' and at least one 'unofficial' WSGA coins are represented. Anything else will be just by someone in the state or about the state.

To that end...

Shop99er did a series of County coins and has done lots of coins for his various events.

Groundspeak has a couple more lackey coins.

Moun10Bike of course has all of his coins and coinaments.

And probably hundreds of coins from individuals and various events...both trackable and not.

Its not to off topic since Groundspeak and the Lakey's are in Washington State......right.

Very nice photos of the coins.

I guess that's true! :D Thank you.

You're right. I hadn't glanced at the website until now. Good job, NWCREW. :)

In that vein, here is the non trackable for 2006 Spring Fling (love love this coin!):

So I just ran across a couple more, including one I got outbid on because my phone was playing jokes on me. The 2006 king county, wa geocachers and the kitsap county coin. I think shop99er did both of these. Would love to track down either of those if anyone has a spare to "donate" to my collection. And I say donate because I'm willing to pay a fair amount, but no crazy eBay coin crazy people prices, lol.

Here's a new one for your collection.

The WSGA 2010 geocoin is at the mint, with delivery expected in mid-May. The coin has an iconic Northwest theme and celebrates the 10th anniversary of geocaching - the perfect keepsake for both our members and GeoWoodstock visitors. The coin front was designed by WSGA's own Randy Booth (The Pathman), a member of the Cache-cadian chapter, and the back by FluteFace, our geocoin manager.

The coin is titled "WSGA 2010 - Celebrating 10 Years of Geocaching," and for the first time, we will offer an exclusive Members version ($7) in addition to a Regular version ($9). Only current WSGA members can purchase the Members version (polished gold, light-blue back, 350 made); the limit will be 3 per member. The Regular version (nickel finish, dark-blue back, 600+ made) will be sold to members, non-members, and at GeoWoodstock. The online order page for both versions will be live on the WSGA site in a couple weeks.

The coin is 1.5” in diameter with hard enamel, meaning the surface will be smooth. The Columbia River is translucent; the salmon are under the translucent water. The river will also have granulations that resemble river rock. The coin will have a custom icon (Washington state) and custom activation code, and the tracking prefix will be WA as in previous years.
