That would be a multi-cache.

Or a series.

Multicaches are caches that have no prize until you get to the final cache. Each cache will hold coordinates for the next cache and so on until the last cache is found and the log signed. The players don't know where the final location is, only the first stage. The cacher doesn't sign a log in any of the stages until they get to the final stage.

A series is a set of caches where each cache is listed on the site. Each cache has a log and each cache can be logged online. Assuming they are traditional caches, each one has it's own set of coordinates that are correct and will lead the cacher to the actual cache. The only thing that connects each cache is they have a common theme or goal.

.. but taking it a step further, you could make finding the first cache in a series a requirement to finding the second, and so on.

We have something similar in a park near here where you have to find, or at least have calculated the coordinates of, the cache in a 3-stage multi. Only with this information can you find another nearby cache.

Clever, imho.

Here in Metro Detroit our wonderful and beloved Midnight Riders do this frequently. For example, this cache was named after my mom and I. It's a 10-stage multi where the 10th stage has a log to sign but also serves as the 1st stage of a second, 3-stage cache. So you can't do the 2nd cache without finishing the 1st one. It's absolutely brilliant.

Except a series doesn't meet the OPs request of "linking one to another till the last one that has the prize in it".

i have a long, hard multi with logbooks and trade items in several of the stages. the final is log only.
