+baloo&bd
Sorry if this is a vary basic question, however I switched to the Garmin Colorado about 3 or 4 months ago and just now got around to ordering the City Nav 2010 DVD. I got it so it can be used on the computer as well as the unit. My question is, can I load it to a aftermarket SD (Like PNY) card for the unit? I don't need the whole thing, although it would be nice to get a good sized region. Quote Link to comment
No H
CN 2010 is 123 tiles and takes up 1133 megs. A 2 GB card would hold the entire US. I believe you need a microSD card. Quote Link to comment
Motorcycle_Mama
The Colorado uses a full size SD card. Yes, you can load the maps to the card. The unit also has a fair amount of storage in the device memory. Quote Link to comment
savant9
Make sure that when you create the map .img file that you do so in a card reader attached to your computer. Transferring to the card if it is in the CO is painfully slow as it does not support USB 2.0 Quote Link to comment
+baloo&bd
Thanks to all for the hints and tips. I am wanting to put it on the card for many reasons. While I know the GPSr has prettty good memory, I use a GSAK macro that puts my finds and hides on the GPSr as POIs so I am sure memory will be tight at some point since I also load up other POIs when I travel. gallet
my colorado 300 only has room for about 350Mb internal memory Quote Link to comment
+2beabout
I have a Colorado, and I have been putting the GPX files directly to the unit. What is the benefit of POI? I have done that with the wifes Nuvi, but thought the other way was easier on the Colorado. Do the POI show up as Geocaches when in that mode? I am no expert so I an being serious, I do not know the answers. Quote Link to comment

However, you lose the ability to have previous logs (I'm not aware of any POI macro for the Colorado that loads the logs) as well as the ability to make field notes (mark them found, did not find, needs maintenance). Basically, although you gain the ability to store more, you lose many of the abilities we gained with the paperless geocaching features of the Colorado/Oregon. YMMV Quote Link to comment

+Cacheoholic
Do not forget to check for an update after installing your City Navigator. You have 30 days to get a free update if one is released. City Navigator North America NT 2010.30 should be released with in the next couple weeks. Quote Link to comment
