Site running very slowly

For the past several days this entire site seems to be running very slowly. It doesn't seem to be a problem with other sites for me - but I spend a lot of time waiting for this site to respond. Is anyone else having this problem? Does Groundspeak need a new ISP or a faster / better server?

Yes, a new server would be nice. I'll tell Jeremy that you offered. Is there any limit on what can be spent for this new server you so graciously offered, or is this just an extra you happen to already have?

I haven't been able to accesss gc website since july, server always times out.

Truly, really, for sure?

Seems a little extreme. Slow at times, but rarely has that happened to me but it has, so rarely it usually indicates the server(s) are totally down.

Perhaps your provider? :D

I thought the site was still down from the fire untill I got email from someone finding one of my caches.

It might be something on this end but everything else I go to works.

It's absolutely (somewhere) on your end. Try clearing your cache. It could be your ISP's cache... but it would need to be horribly misconfigured to not have been flushed by now.

Try a different computer, same location.

It works, then obviously something in your system or it's logical connection to the internet is at fault.

Am I understanding that you can access any other internet server at will at any time except for the ones located at goeocaching.com?

What happens if you go to a command prompt and type: ping geocaching.com?

I've found that messing with my proxy lets me access the gc site, don't really know what I'm doing but here's what I did:

go to tools and click options

click on the advanced button and then click the network tab

then under connections click settings

click auto-detect proxy settings for this network.

Are you within a corporate network? In a country with weird censorship laws (Australia, Iran, China, etc)?

Are you literally pinging gc.com? That is a valid internet site. Try the full name, i.e. ping geocaching.com.

If you can ping it and are getting responses, then you are having one strange problem indeed. One that I cant help you with remotely.

BTW the ttl part of the reply is normal is stands for Time to Live, don't worry about that.

Try going to Groundspeak.com and from there click the geocaching.com icon.

If that doesn't get you there, then I hope that you have a bud who knows something about troubleshooting network issues.

There is no doubt this site bogs down around/during weekends, just when you'd expect a lot of logging traffic......fast computer + fast internet access will still experience poor response times.
