fastestdogever Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 I found my first Geocoin a few days ago. It was # CPC0Y7. I wasn't quite sure what I was doing, and now the log just shows that I have it. Can I change this? It also says I found it in a different state - I'd like to change that as well. Thanks in advance! -FDE Quote
+Droo Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 (edited) First off congrats on finding your first geocoin. Because of thieves and others too many geocoins are lost so finding one is a bit of a challenge sometimes. Second please go to the Trackable Items tab on the Geocaching page and read about Geocoins and Other Trackable Items. The instructions there are pretty clear on how to deal with the tracking system. Many many game pieces are lost every year because they are not properly logged in and out. It appears you logged a discovery to the Buffalo Soldiers Coin and it's location is still showing as UNKNOWN, in other words - MISSING. You could do the coin owner a big service if you could log it into the system again and to the location you actually found it in. Lastly you should never post the actual tracking number of a coin in a public forum (or post pics showing that number) as anyone can use it to log it virtually which is not allowed under the Groundspeak guidelines and can result in the coin's page being frozen and the coin owner loses the trackability of that coin. There is a TBxxxxx number on the coin's page you should use when trying to reference the coin so others can find the page but can't log to it (only those who come in contact with the coin are privy to the tracking number). Currently your profile should show that you have handled this trackable and its icon is posted to the left hand column of your trackables. To log it to the cache you found it in you must, a. Log a grab so the coin appears in your possession (you'll need the tracking number to do this from the coin's page). b. Go to the cachepage for the cache it's actually in and log a note ... say something like "coin drop" then go to the bottom of the page where you'll see your Inventory and the coin should be listed. Click on the coin to highlight it and thus select it then hit the submit button. c. Go back to the cache page and you should see the coin's icon listed in the cache's trackable inventory. That's it. You just got the crash course and probably made a coin owner very happy by helping a lost coin resurface. Edited October 12, 2009 by Droo Quote
Odyssey Voyager Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 FDE, do you have the geocoin in your possession right now? or is the geocoin in a geocache? thanks for clarifying. Quote
