NordicMan
New AND used are being considered? How bout smartphones? Again, new & used? New, possibly a DeLorme PN-20 is amongst the "cheapest paperless GPSr's" but,,, you better have patience waiting for the screen to refresh.. .."cheap" comes at a cost.. (is that a pun? lol) Quote Link to comment
+Red90
He is in Canada.... Delorme is no use at the moment. The "cheapest" route in an etrex H plus a used PDA. For "all in one" Dakota 10 $320, http://www.gpscity.ca/garmin-dakota-10.html Oregon 300 $375, http://www.gpscity.ca/garmin-oregon-300.html At least today. Sales come along. The Oregon 200 was really cheap at Costco last month. Quote Link to comment
+gpsblake
Answer Going by MSRP: Magellan Triton 200 ... but if you shop around, you can often find the Triton for around 100 bucks. Edited October 1, 2009 by gpsblake Quote Link to comment
+Team CowboyPapa
He is in Canada.... Delorme is no use at the moment. From here: http://shop.delorme.com/OA_HTML/DELibeCCtd...29488§ion=10050 The following: This special PN-Series edition of Topo USA is by far the best value for the price – EVERYTHING needed comes in-the-box for the purchase price, including:Complete USA topographic maps and detailed streets Detailed streets for Canada; major roads for Mexico And we know that this is useless for geocaching in Canada because we've installed these DeLorme detailed street maps for Canada on a PN-20 and subsequently holding that PN-20 in our very own hands attempted, but failed, to geocache successfully in Canada. +Team CowboyPapa
I've been very happy with my Triton 400 10-4, and I'm neither trashing and bashing your device nor disputing your pleasant results. Quote Link to comment

+Surferjo
I picked up my Triton 1500 and I love it. Has Cache Description, hint, size, and logs. The only thing it cant do is log in the field. Quote Link to comment
Biergartler
Which is the cheapest GPS for Paperless Geocaching? I paid $20 US for a Globaltop mouse with the MKT chipset (about the same sensitivity and accuracy as the SIRF Star-III). I connect this to an old Ibook that was rescued from the recycle pile. I've installed Macports, GPS Drive and all its dependencies, and a bunch of free maps rendered from the Open Street Map data. I've written some scripts to average the position, translate waypoint data and append them to the database, etc. It is indeed paperless. This is a prototype for a netbook/tablet based solution I hope to develop someday. But I have found more caches with this than with my Etrex Summit. Perhaps you wanted something a bit more integrated and turnkey in its operation? But it is the cheapest I have found (at least in terms of money).
