The first 'power trails'

Does anyone know where it all started? Just interested.....

I wasnt thinking of that cache actually but now you come to mention it, I do rather think that quality caches are being 'passed up' in favour of 'numbers'. Its a great shame but I guess that is the way we are headed with the sport/hobby. We look forward to seeing you log the cache in question soon anyway! :)

Seem to remember doing (and enjoying!) a certain "ROUTE CANAL" series in October 2006.

:)

Yes, you are quite right and we cant remember if we had completed anyone else's power trails before we actually set our own. Were we one of the first I wonder? The old hats will have to answer that one!

I suppose, in answer to SP.... any more than 20 caches would be my interpretation.

How would you define power trail? How close to each other do the caches have to be before a series intended to be done on foot/bike/canal-boat counts as a power trail?

For me, the term is harder to define than that. In addition to the spacing I certainly take into account how difficult the hides are. I may also take into account the variability of the hides, the terrain, the total number of caches and probably other factors that I don't even realise are influencing me. The combination of factors is sufficiently complex that it ends up very much as a "gut feeling" rather than a logical analysis.
