Odd Oregon Behaviour

After working fine with the latest firmware release (3.20) , yesterday I encountered a strange problem when connecting my 300 to my PC.

 

After responding YES to the "Would you like to go to Mass Storage?" question, I get the screen stating it is backing up tracks etc, then the Garmin screen flashes briefly and the screen fades away, similar to what we saw earlier in the firmware releases. And of course, it does not go into mass storage mode.

 

Intermittently, it does connect but most often it does not.

 

I have been troubleshooting the problem and it seems to be related to whether I have the microSD card installed. The microSD card is Garmin sold CN NA 2009 and the unit recognizes it when in GPS mode.

 

ON about 20 attempts, it worked fine with the card removed.

 

Anyone else encounter something similar??

Loose USB plug. Lean it against something to check.

I don't think so. If I say NO to mass storage mode, it works fine. If it was a loose cable, I would expect it to revert to battery mode and prompt with the 30 second msg.

I connected mine 3 or 4 times in the past few days with 3.2 ... no problems here. I do have an SD card installed. It has my east coast CN maps on it. No GPX files on the SD card, only internal.

It can just be a bad data connection and not the power......

It just started happening in the last day. Only when the microSD card is installed. Can't make it fail with the card out.
