Hi,

I'd like to know what was the first coin in your collection.

Did you receive it as a gift or you bought your first coin ?

Do you still own this coin ?

As for me, when I officially started collecting geocoin the first one I bought (around dec. 2006) was a :

Magic Ball Geocoin - Blue

And no I unfortunately don't have this coin anymore. :D

I traded it (along with a Indian Paintbrush) for a DragonFly 2007 LE. :D

So, what was the coin that started your collection ?

Have a good day !

Paris, AR 2009 Event coin. I still have it. I bought it for $7.50 (if I remember right). There were over 300 trackables sitting on two tables at that event, and that's when I decided I wanted to start collecting geocoins. hehe I now have 281 coins in my collection, with 20 or so more expected in the mailbox sometime in the next month or so. :D

My first two were

Apple Geocoin 874.gif

An Apple a Day keeps the Doctor away.

and

Highly Addictive Geocoin 763.gif

I'd walk a mile for a cache. Even I'm not a smoker I loved the pun on Camel addvertisement.

I loved the kind of humor and still love it.

Also it is still true. Both of it. :D

I bought those coins after getting a present of a TB from my friend, who also introduced me to geocaching by sending my son, her god son, a coin.

After a while she said, I should log it. Huh? Where?

Ah, okay, got an account.

After a few weeks she said I need to place it in a cache.

Oh? Where?

Turned out, that our area is littered with caches, no shortage there.

Since then I'm hooked on coins and caching.

The first coin in my collection was an Environment Canada - Geocache Your Watershed coin. I work for the department, and the designer is a friend of mine. The coins were meant to go to schools across Canada to promote watershed studies and water conservation. The students were to create information caches near water about the watershed in the area. A few of the coins somehow ended up in the possession of cachers in the department. :D

The first coin I bought was the 2007 All Season Caching Winter.

In between those two I found a Red Handed micro as an FTF prize. That hooked me. :D

I still have all three of them.

The first coin I ever found in a cache was a Canadian Forces Geocoin #3.

The first coin that I ever had was a Gold Sea Turtle which was a gift from Chickahominy! I received this coin long before I actually began collecting, and thought I had lost it in the twilight zone known as my house. In fact I came across this coin not a hour before reading this thread (spooky huh ... :D)

It is still unactivated (having just rediscovered it :D), and brings back the memory of that day. The fact is I owe my entire geocoin addiction to Chickahominy, because she introduced me to the Guardians of the Night series which were the first coins I bought! It's been down hill from there. So a big thank you to Chickahominy for creating a geocoin monster :D !

OH! Difficult question for me! I will tell you why! :D

As I wrote many times here, I am a geocacher because of a geocoin!!!

I collect paper money (and food coupons... even if I do not have any yet with an exception of 3 supermarket exchange checks from Greece), tokens, casino chips and tokens, medals and coins! I was searching in the net and Ebay, when I saw the first greek geocoin 2007! I fell in love with it! I didn't know what it was and thought it was a medal or something! I tried to learn more about it and... I found this great game! :D

Anyway... When I collected more info about who made the coin, how much it costed etc, I ordered one from the greek geocachers!

BUT... in the time I was collecting info (I didn;t know much about the coin or the game), I started geocaching and made my first steps in finding the lovely hiden tapperware! :P

At first I found a micro, but in my first normal sised cache, I found a coin! It was a shaped and beautiful german coin, the Uckermark 2006! Of course it had a mission so I did not kept it! I contacted the owners to find more info about the coin (actually collecting info about coins is a habit kept from my other collections! :)), we became friends with the geocachers, and they sent me a surprise letter with things to start geocaching, and a similar coin! So... I actually have the brother of my first coin find! :D

This was the first coin I ever had! Even if I had already ordered the greek one, the german was faster! :D A couple of days later, the greek coin came! It was the unknown version of the coin, that was minted only for the greek geocachers!!! Nope... not the antique silver, not the antique gold, not the LE antique copper, not the LE black nickel... it was the polished silver version and it was made in 50 pieces only .. I think! ;)

Both of them are in my collection and I will never leave them in my life! I love them soooo much!!! How could I let them free or trade with them or sell them??? Nooooooo way!!!!

Oh my gosh! I am all choked up. Jennifer, it is so easy to be nice to you! (Jennifer is one of my fellow local cachers. She is so dedicated to the caching community. She has traveled ALL over the local area to attend my meetings and flash mobs.) It's good to see you posting on the forum. Be careful, because these coins definitely ARE and addiction. :D

I believe that was a gold Honu Turtle geocoin. Check it out...

My first purchase was a tag – Islander88 which I immediately released and ordered my first coin, a Newfoundland coin which I release exactly one year ago today (oh I kept the other I had ordered and still have) funny because on the same day I found my first geocoin (released one in the morning and found one that afternoon) a Canada Micro – Puck Shutout

My first purchases were from ebay. I saw was on ebay one night, just seaching for geocaching items and I saw Geocoins-it was love at first sight! Some of the coins I bought were:

Blue Pi

Red Pi

North and South Pole

Dressel Dragons

Master of the Cache

Mouth of the South

Yeah, I went crazy. That's just a few off the top of my head. Then, I asked one of the people that I had bought about 5 coins from, where do these coins come from? He said he got most of them from the people on the Geocaching Forums. Of course, being the computer idiot that I am, I had no idea what the forums were, but I found out quickly and I have since bought many, many, more! Perhaps, too many. (Is that possible?)

I need to find the time to sort though all of my coins because I have a lot of duplicates that would make some good trading material, especially since they include some of the older coins from 2005 and 2006 (that's when I got into Geocaching).

My first coin was an Oregon 2004 found in a cache. I didn't know any better at the time (July of 2004) so I think I left a dollar. =)

Me, too. Oregon 2004 that was found in a cache.

Nurse Dave dropped it on a visit before he moved out here and he kindly let me keep it.

Yes, I absolutely still have it. The coin meant something and still does = the best kind.

I bought two Pathtag Sherpas (the red one) -- that was the first coin I ever bought. I still have them both, though at some point I may build up the courage to release the Sherpa that has my first Pathtag in it. The first coin I ever saw, though, was a "Curiously Smoggy" Cachoids coin in a local cache (first cache ever found).

My first geocoin was the Nederlandse Geocoin 2005 = Dutch Geocoins. Ik bought it myself. Several as a matter of fact. I've still got 2 activated. The rest I gave away, send out or is lost. One coin I used as a dipper. But I stopped that after 387 caches

This has been a neat thread to look through.

My first geocoin was a gift from my husband -- he bought me three Canada 2007 geocoins for Christmas 07. It was shortly after I began geocaching and I was so excited about them, I activated them all at once. I have since sent two out travelling (both are missing  ) but I will never part with the third one.

The first couple that I bought myself when I stumbled across these forums some months later, were the Cache Matrix, Fortune Favors the Bold (Blue/Bronze) and the Titanic coins. I bought two of the Titanic coins (first round before all the hoopla) and made my very first trade with bluecherry. I was forever hooked!

My first coin was a 2008 Earth Turtle multi, which was gifted to me back in January 2008 as a newbie. The coin came with one string attached: "pay it forward." I did, more than once! I still have the coin.

The first coin I found in a cache was a "Dear Cacher..." coin from GCC 2007. I found that in December 2007 and then discovered these forums and greater variety of coins out there...and the rest is history!

:P I think my first geocoin was the Greenman coin, I remember seeing one at an event, Crowefeat30 had one if I remember correctly. I still have it, and a couple others.

I still have that one too! It was given to me by a guy who won it at a KC Picnic. I'd won an ammo box full of goodies and was willing to trade the whole thing for that one coin! He gave it to me because he already had one - and I got to keep the ammo can too! :P It is one of my favorite coins.

My first coin was Neptune Compass. I love it. It was gifted to me by a wonderful man. Yes I still have it. I only have just begun collecting coins in July of this year. I have now two to my name. Neptune Compass and Irishtown Nature Park wooden coin which I earned at the event. Love them both.

Shadow's Friend and I got our first two geocoins before we started caching. Montana was doing a promotion that they would hide a cache in a store in the Twin Cites. On their website they would post pictures of the location. (The cords were there also, but we had no idea what they were for.) There were 5 geocoins in the cache for the first 5 people to find it. The rest got a smashed penney and the keyword to enter in their website. We were lucky enough to find two caches before the geocoins were gone. Our habit of caching and geocoin collecting began. Here are pictures of the front of the two coins.
