+canuman
I have had to retire my Palm Pilot M505 running on my PC (XP). For some reason the software quit recognizing the Palm. Would like to run a Palm or other PDA from my new laptop using Vista. I'm looking for a hardware replacement, maybe even something that's outdated enough that it may be available on eBay, for instance. I have a Nuvi 200, and I know you can do paperless geocaching with it, but I'd prefer something similar to the Palm Pilot. Appreciate any guidance. Thanks. Canuman. Quote Link to comment
Clan Riffster
Wish I could help. My shiny new Dell came with Vista, and after gobs of frustration with compatibility issues, I installed XP on it. I had a Garmin iQue 3600 PDA, which I used to use for paperless caching, but because of the environments I like to cache in, I was always afraid it would die a painful death. When I upgraded to a Colorado for my wife and an Oregon for me, I gave the iQue away. Quote Link to comment

Is your shinny new laptop running 64-bit Vista? If so the palm software does not have the required 64-bit drivers, so hot sync will not work. If it is 64-bit see this post. If it is 32-bit then make sure you have the latest desktop software, 6.something. The latest desktop can be obtained for free from the palm site. I run the palm software on a 32-bit Vista laptop without problems. Jim Edited September 6, 2009 by jholly Quote Link to comment
Ken in Regina
I'm running Palm Desktop 4.1 on my 32-bit Vista laptop and the Hotsync Manager is working fine. I can't go to 6.x of the Desktop because I've got a Garmin iQue 3600, not a regular Palm. ...ken... Quote Link to comment

Out of the blue, the PC stopped recognizing the Palm, but I stopped working on a fix because I want to do my paperless geocaching from my Vista 64-bit laptop while traveling. I took a look at the link you included, but the fix is way out of my league. Will keep chipping away, or will break down and buy a new device that will run on Vista. Thanks again. canuman Quote Link to comment
