TotemLake Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 I have to say the silence from the Garmin crowd is deafening. Without specifics about the trigger, a Google is coming up some very interestng and very unrelated choices. Can you post some more details? Quote
TheRedArmy Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 i've used free LEGAL maps like ibycus with no problem, also paid maps like garmin topo. was this a shady download or from a shady site? if so, that's why. Quote
splashy Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 The installation of a new map makes a 'key' in your registry also, when deleting the 'key' should be deleted. If one or both goes wrong mapsource, while starting up finds the wrong data in the registry and gives the error you have. You can go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GARMIN\Mapsource and delete the key from the NEW installed map, supposed you did NOTHING else related to mapsource, like updating, deleting mapsource maps. > Be sure to know what you are doing here< Deinstalling/reinstalling mapsource will not solve the issue, because the error in the registry remains. You can also try mapsettoolkit to solve problems. http://cypherman1.googlepages.com/ Quote
Redwoods Mtn Biker Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 Another solution is to use Window's System Restore function. Quote

This alone is the biggest concern I would have with those freee maps. Quote
coggins Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 (edited) I have to say the silence from the Garmin crowd is deafening. Without specifics about the trigger, a Google is coming up some very interestng and very unrelated choices. Can you post some more details? That would be because the only maps that go through the registration process are locked Garmin maps and some other purchased map sets. Edited September 6, 2009 by coggins Quote
jotne Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 The problem with MapSource is that one single error in Regestry (after adding a map) prevents MapSource from starting. Se my post here: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...11&t=230915 Quote
shutle64 Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Just use MapsetToolkit to remove the map that you just installed. Select the mapset and click on uninstall. Quote

JSWilson64 Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 how do i go about changing my registry? See the link in Jotne's post - you don't have to edit your registry. Quote
Red90 Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Mapsettoolkit as explained above to fix the problem.... Basically there was an error in the way cgpsmapper used to make the TDB files and one of the newer Mapsource releases drops an error during the startup. Any maps made with the older cgpsmapper cause this error..... Please point us to the map in question so that the author can be notified of the small change needed to fix the problem. Quote
splashy Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 how do i go about changing my registry? The fact you're asking, better don't do it yourself, it might go very wrong. Use the tool for it. Quote
coggins Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Press the Start key or click on the Windows Start icon, select Run... and then type in regedit and then edit away. On second thought, better use MapSetToolkit. Quote
