+Sol seaker
These Puget Sound area Parks are up for closure to help with the buget deficit. Anyone know who we can contact to stop this? I'd be willing to bet almost every park here has caches in it. Let's get a "letter writing" thing going here (ie. e-mail or call in somewhere ) to stop this from happening! http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/loca...ebparks17m.html 132nd Square Park Arbor Lake Park Bingaman Pond Natural Area Boulevard Lane Park Bridle Crest Trail Bryn Mawr Park Camelot Park East Norway Hill Park Edith Moulton Park Evergreen Athletic Field Five Mile Lake Park Green Tree Park Hamm Creek Natural Area Hazel Valley Park Hilltop Park Juanita Heights Park Kingsgate Park Klahanie Park Lake Geneva Park Lakewood Park Maplewood Heights Park Maplewood Park May Creek Park North Green River Park North Meridian Park North Shorewood Park Park Orchard Park Puget Sound Park Renton Park Salmon Creek Park Sierra Heights Park Site Number 1 Duwamish Skyway Park South County Ballfields Southern Heights Sunset Playfield White Center Heights Park White Center Pond Natural Area Windsor Vista Park Edited September 3, 2009 by Sol seaker Quote Link to comment

+The Jester
Already discussed in this thread - see the last several posts. As noted there, the parks will not be closed to access, just no services (including playground equipment which may be fenced off, it does need to be maintained and that won't happen). +hydnsek
Don't tell me no one cares? As The Jester noted, we discussed this a few weeks ago when it was announced, starting with this post in the thread he referenced. It's also been discussed in the Parks Advocacy forum on the WSGA site. Admittedly, nobody suggested a letter-writing campaign, including Ranger Smith, our favorite KCP geocaching ranger, maybe because it's not clear that the closures will impact geocaching or that such an effort would have any effect. (Personally, I'd rather see park 'closures' than abandonment of the animal shelters, the other main area targeted. There are plenty of park lands out there, but not so many animal rescue and care facilities.) Edited September 3, 2009 by hydnsek Quote Link to comment
+Dgwphotos
There isn't any staff at the individual parks, as King County Parks staff work from centralized shops and drive out to the individual parks when they need to visit them. The only park on the list with staff is Five Mile Lake, where there is a maintenance shop. Plus, they have zero influence on the budget. That's purely the provenance of the King County Council. You would be better off talking to your local Representative, or contacting the County Executive. Since the County Executive position is up for reelection, the closures may not even happen, if the incoming Executive decides to balance the budget by some other means. (The incumbent isn't running.)
