Stuff We All Get

Wrong...

The term is much older and makes sense for Geocache goods - see this article: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/swag see definition number 1

Yeah... if it's in Wikipedia, it must be correct. :(

To say the first response is "Wrong" is just... wrong!

English is a living language. meaning is what we make it. The first response is way more accurate for geocaching than your reference.

StarBrand missed that the op was asking about "SWAG", not "swag". The link provided has a redirect that says "See also SWAG"

See definition number 4.

I maintain that I am still right - see the GeoLex under SWAP as well: http://geolex.locusprime.net/

Way back when there wasn't such a universal term for swag, and swag was just one of the contenders for "cache trade contents". The leading definition for the word swag was the "swag" they gave away on radio shows. The DJ's said "swag" when talking about giveaways, and we cachers said "that works for us too". In time it became the leading term.
