The only way is to delete the GPX file that the cache was in to get to the unit in the first place. Hook the unit up in mass storage mode and delete the GPX.

Yeah, I've heard that the 550t does not let you delete individual caches. You have to delete the original file you loaded. One of the many reasons the person I spoke with suggested the 60CSx over the Oregon series.

As with previous versions of the Oregon series, the onyl way to delete caches is to delete the GPX files, now if you happen to do PQ all your caches will be listed as one big file so you will also lose all your other caches. Other wise you can download indivual GPX files and then delete them one by one, but that may take some time. Just a note that if you mark your caches as found they will no longer show up on the Geocahe Screen, unless you chose to select "show found goecaches"

I want to delete the Geocaches that I have found. When I select "Find a Geocache" my garmin Oregon 550T list all the geocaches that I have ever loaded on to it, including the ones I have already found.I have to sift throught and try to remember the ones that i have already found. I want to delete the "Found " ones.

Thank you, what's a PQ?

That's weird - on my Oregon 300 when I log the cache as found, it still shows on the map but it changes from the little green and white box to a yellow "opened" box.... and it no longer shows on my normal list, but under the "found" list.

How do I delete geocaches from my Garmin 550T

 As others have stated, to remove a Cache from the "Find Geocache" folder, you need to click "Log Attempt" than click on "Found" this will change the icon on the map and remove it from the "Find Geocache" list. It will place it in the "Show Found" List. The only way I know of to remove either Found or Unfound Caches is to connect to you computer: 1) when Autoplay screen comes up, click on "Open Folder to View Files" (if Autoplay does not come up, go to My Computer double click on the "Garmin" icon) 2) Open "Garmin" Folder, 3) Open "GPX" Folder, 4) all of your cache files will be listed there by GC Code. You can delete any or all. You can also organize your caches.

You can store a lot of found caches on your GPS

Waypoints can be removed with "Waypoint Manager"

Now if I only knew how to view comments entered about a cache. You would think that for the price they get for their GPS, Garmin would have a decent owners manual.

How do I delete geocaches from my Garmin 550T

Hi,

I wanted to delete Geocaches from my Oregon 450, and I think the same procedure will work for the 550T.

Here is what I did:

This Is How To Delete/Move Geocaches from Garmin 450 etc. (450t,550,550t?)

I have done this on the Garmin Oregon 450, but I think it should also work on the 450t, 550, and 550t. If someone can verify those models for us it would be appreciated. Thanks.

TO REMOVE GEOCACHES FROM THE HANDHELD "GEOCACHE" SCREEN AND MOVE TO "FOUND" SCREEN

(This assumes you have geocaches already loaded on your handheld GPS.)

This will delete the geocache from the geocache screen and will move it to the “Geocache Found” section of the handheld GPS. To permanently remove all GEOCACHES and GEOCHACHES FOUND from the Garmin handheld, go to the next instructions below.

Turn on the GPS.

Select GEOCACHE.

Select the geocache you wish to remove from the screen.

Select “GO” at the bottom of the screen.

While the Geocache map is shown on the screen, push “X” at the bottom of the screen.

On the menu, push “Geocache”.

Then push “Log Attempt”.

Then push “Found” on the menu.

This will remove the Geocache from the Geocache selection screen and move it to the “Geocache Found” screen. Turn on your handheld GPS and verify the geocache has been removed from your “Geocaches” and moved to “Found”.

TO PERMINENTLY DELETE GEOCACHES FROM YOUR HANDHELD GPS

This requires you to connect your handheld GPS to your personal computer (PC).

Turn “OFF” your handheld GPS and leave it turned “OFF” for all of this procedure. The GPS will have automatic access from the PC.

Use the cable that came with your GPS and plug it into a USB port on your PC while the GPS is turned “OFF”.

Wait until your PC recognizes the GPS unit – remember to leave the GPS “OFF”.

The GPS unit will automatically then become a directory on your PC, mine is called “GarminOregon(F:)”

Then go to the “GarminOregon(F:\Garmin\GPX” directory

The files on your handheld GPS that end with “GPX” in that directory, will be the files you will want to delete. An example of what the file would look like is GC99K3G.GPX (fictional file)

Delete each .GPX file you want to remove permanently from your GPS unit.

If you do not know which file is which, or which one to delete, then go to GEOCACHING.COM. Select the list of caches for your area and select the name of the file you want to delete. Then look for the box “GPX file” on the page and select it (you may have to be a member to display the “GPX file” box).. This selection will show the GPX number/name of that geocache. Write this number down since this will be the file you will want to delete. Then go back to the “GarminOregon(F:\Garmin\GPX” directory and delete the file.

DO NOT unplug your GPS from your PC until you select the “Safely Remove Hardware” at the bottom of your screen and it gives you permission to unplug the “Mass Storage Device”. Then unplug the GPS from your PC.

Turn on the handheld GPS and verify the files have been removed.

If you have any suggestions or see anything that needs improvement with any of the above, please let us know. We appreciate all help.

I hope the above helps those who have been struggling with removing Geocaches from your handheld GPS.

Best regards,

Wayne Miller

I recommend downloading and installing Garmin BaseCamp. Its free on the Garmin web site. When connected to your computer, you can browse all of the caches and waypoints on the device and delete individual or multiple geocaches from the device. It would solve the issue of wanting to delete individual caches from within a large PQ without affecting the rest of the PQ.
