luke4it
I just got rid of my Colorado 300, and am thinking of buying a Triton 500. With the Colorado, I could load the .gpx file directly onto the SD card. Can this be done with the Triton 500 unit or do the .gpx files need to go onto the Vantage Point software to be loaded onto the Triton 500? Quote Link to comment
+SkellyCA
You have to use VantagePoint. The gpx files don't get stored on the SD card, but rather in internal memory. It'll hold 3,000 I believe Edited August 28, 2009 by SkellyCA Quote Link to comment

+Flauti
Hi, I have quite a problem with my GPS and I hope this is the right place to ask: I have a Magellan Triton 500 and today I upgraded to Premium Membership at Geocaching.com So I made a pocket query, and when it arrived via e-mail I wanted to upload it to my GPS. So I started VantagePoint and imported the files. But when I want to synchronize the GPS with the software, the program crashes and nothing happens anymore. I waited a long time since I thought maybe it just takes so long to import 500 waypoints. But obviously that's not it Thanks already for your help! markus Quote Link to comment
+gpsblake
So sorry to hear this. May i make a few suggestions. 1) If you are using Vista or Win 7 beta, make sure VantagePoint is being run as ADMIN mode, not as a normal user 2) Make sure your firmware and VantagePoint software are up to date. 3) Some users have had to uninstall and reinstall VantagePoint software. And yes, it does take a while for the unit to synch 500 gpx files. Go get a large cup of Joe while VP is synching with the Triton. www.jungleghost.com is a good site that will also help you with VP and Triton software. Good luck. Edit: if you are on a netbook/laptop that goes to screen saver, hibernates, or sleep mode after a few minutes, turn off those features when synching a large gpx file. +SkellyCA
Do any of the caches load? Sometimes it'll start transfering the gpx files. Then when it reaches a certian one, it will hang. You then have to find the one that makes it hang and remove it Quote Link to comment
+Surferjo
Run the PQ GPX through this app. It will remove the null characters and HTML data from the caches and it will load up no problem after that. http://www.picosaan.de/app/spoilertogpx.jnlp Quote Link to comment
+gpsblake
Does that program also work on loc files, which lock up the Triton due to the null character in ownership field? Quote Link to comment

+Da Beast
i hate the tritons i ave a 1500 and downloaded the newest verson of vantage point and now it goes to a "non responding" ver time i try to do anything. So i cant update my gpsr with th new firmware or load ant geocaches to m gpsr fro vantagepoint at all i emailed my problem to magellan 6 months ago and no response from them at all i when out and got the garmin 60csx the one thing that i did love about the 1500 was the paperless geocaching Quote Link to comment
+Deadelm
It is best to update without using vantage point. Download the update zip file and follow the instructions inside. The most recent update has resolved the problem communicating with vantage point to load your data. Quote Link to comment
+Flauti
Thanks a lot! I really simply had to start VP in the Admin Mode. Can't wait for the sun to come out again to go hunting for caches. Thanks again! Greets from Germany Markus Quote Link to comment
