Another membership option

My idea is the addition of a second membership level.

$99.99 per year.

For the purchaser you would get for the extra money:

- more flexible PQs (or more PQs, etc)

- improved Google earth KML limits

- special tag in the forums

- miscellaneous swag bag that could contain Groundspeak stickers, pens, or other low-cost branded stuff and an exclusive annual limited edition geocoin (or something along those lines)

Just a thought for the marketing gurus to mull over.

I apologize for hijacking this thread by mentioning Platinum Membership (which obviously is secret, and doesn't really exist).

There are advantages and justifications for having more than two tiers of services. Those who give Jeremy more money to help support the site should be able to access better services. But the only real perks in your list are the first two, and the coin, and I don't think they would command the price point you mentioned. The special forum tag wouldn't be a selling point for me, and the "swag bag" would only occur once. Other potential perks at this price point could be Preferred Instant Notifications (you get first shot at FTF), and Preferred Review (your submitted caches jump to the front of the reviewer queues).

So would I be willing to pay $70 more per year for these perks? Probably not.

The current Premium price ($30) is your typical yearly access fee for lots of internet-based subscription services. It's the cost of a meal at an expensive restaurant, or a meal for two at a cheaper restaurant. It's easily justified because of what you get. Almost anyone with enough money and free time to play this game can scrape together $30 a year. But $100 would eliminate lots of people for purely financial reasons. They would WANT to be in this tier, but simply not be able to afford it. So the current cries of "Elitism" (mainly for Premium Member Only Caches, and the FTF advantages of Instant Notifications) would intensify and the angst levels would reach epic proportions.

Hay, stop your shenanigans! The internet is for serious business!

Post was moderated for linking to wikipedia's article on porn where I said "serious business". Since not having that link makes my post nonsensical, please feel free to substitute that link for this one:

. I trust The Sesame Street isn't too racy for this forum.

I think 30$ is way below what the market would bear for an annual subscription. Maybe $30 for 6/month and $50 per year. For comparison, I paid around $150 per year for World of Warcraft when I was involved in that. $120/year for a different game before that.

Not that I think it would be political to just increase the base membership so much... thats why I was thinking about a second membership level.

Concur.

Many folks would pay more just to support Groundspeak.

Angst levels would certainly rise anyway, though, as they always will.
