Should this cache be published?

Recommended Posts

My only quibble, was that it was a bug return for what seems to be your own personal set of TB's. Why was that? Couldn't anyone drop off any TB? I could see encouraging TB's that have a critter theme, but why did you say it was a return for your bugs only?

Actually, I didn't say it was for the return of my bugs only. I said it was the final destination for my TBs. But I can see how that might get stretched to the notion that it's for my TBs only.

It probably wouldn't be a bad cache to act as a travel bug hotel - and that might actually fit the theme nicely. The Humane Society takes in pets and gets them on their way into new homes.... My cache takes in TBs and gets them on their way to new homes. You've given me a great idea! This cache is also not far off a major north/south highway and near a military base as well, so as they say: location, location, location.

The modified cache has been published, but I'll email my reviewer and see if s/he will allow this additional modification.

No need to. TB hotel is not an official designation. You can change the title and add the words Travel Bug Hotel and voila! it's a travel bug hotel.

There is one big difference other than the cache page. The town and the Chamber of Commerce are unlikely to expect donations. The same can't be said for the Humane society.

Brings me back to a question I asked earlier. gc has already made assumptions about placement at non-profits to the extent that they have waived the "fee" restriction. So I pay a fee to get into a non-profit's facility. Wouldn't gc also anticipate that the vast majority of non-profit operations look forward to donations?

I'm still wondering if the reviewer can provide examples of non-profit facilities where a fee is charged to enter that would be permissible territory for a cache. If not the local Humane Society, what?

I am not a reviewer but as I understand it The fees that are acceptable are for things like state parks. We are not looking at things that are supported by the donations they receive.

If I'm following the thread correctly it would appear the OP has made the necessary changes and is somewhat happier with the end result. 'Recycling' the original container and contents in this manner was a good move. At this juncture I just want to congratulate her on her caching successes to date and hope she continues to participate with the same enthusiasm that lead to all those finds in so short a time. It's evident she has some good and creative ideas that can only enhance Geocaching in her local area. I'd love to search for her multi-stage cache - that looks like fun!

Plenty of sugar there to rot your teeth.

a cache in Las Vegas in the window of a drive up wedding chapel, placed there with the blessing of the Nevada tourism commission (or something to that effect) which literally screamed (come to Vegas, get married and gamble in our casinos).

I also seem to remember that cache listing contains the phrase "Published with Permission of Groundspeak" or something like that? And the Commercial Cache guideline seems to allow the owner of this listing service to make exceptions when they deem it appropriate. I don't recall ever seeing the OP indicate that they bothered to ask for special permission for their hide per the guidelines.

I'm glad the cache is finally published, and applaud the owner for giving herself a timeout before responding to some of the posts here. I'm glad that the shelter got some bonus swag to share with their supporters.

To the OP-read my sig line-the opinions of the forum hounds don't always represent the general community. Go caching, go have fun.

Maybe the reviewer just hates "pets".

Folks....Please make sure you are signing the Cache Log and not a Marriage Certificate.

Per briansnat, "I'll also point out that state parks and non profits with entry fees are exempt from the commercial guideline."

I'm now requesting a pointer to something that makes that case. If true, however, the "state parks" waiver you point out (wherever it is) isn't the whole story.

I don't know about that. Today a lot of parks are supported by the donations they receive. But I guess some might call them fees.
