Are Garmin maps the best to be using for a 60Cx?

Hey all, I just bought a Garmin 60Cx and plan to do some Geocaching with it, something I've never done before! Sorry I can't search for the keyword 'maps' since it's <5 characters. I've seen all sorts of things, people saying Garmin maps aren't detailed enoughs, people generating their own maps from certain websites, Wanderlust, MetroGold, it's all pretty confusing!

Price isn't a huge issue here, I'm just looking for the most detailed maps for geocaching (in the Northeast US). Thanks a lot!

For routable street maps you need Garmin City Navigator. For topo maps there are free alternatives, however I find that they chew up a lot of memory so I stick with the Garmin Topo maps.

Thanks for the advice. I'll see if I can get my parents to subsidize the CN maps since I'm giving them my old GPS :)

The CN maps are locked to a specific gps, and to run on two gps units you will need two unlock codes. I understand the second unlock code is about as expensive as the DVD. You get the first unlock code with the DVD.

For the 60CSX, will the Topo US 24K work with this model. When looking at the Garmin web site, I did not see it listed. If not which topo series works best with the 60CSX and gives the most detail (preferably 7.5 min)? I'm not necessarily interested in satellite images but I am interested in elevation gain/loss lines, location of water sources, landmarks etc. Maybe someone could chime in and tell me which free ones work with this GPS and the pluses and minuses. I have an extra 2Gb memory card so I'm willing to experiment. I have the DeLorme Topo USA on disk, but I've been told it will not work.

These maps are free and will work fine on your unit. The topo maps are pretty detailed:
