+phiscocks
The rubber gasket has once again started to come off my Hcx. Last time Garmin fixed it at no cost other than shipping. I didn't want to be without it for a week + so I ordered the gasket and glue tape. Now that I have them, anyone replace it themselves? The glue tape looks like it is pre-cut and some sort of peel and stick. TIA! Quote Link to comment
+SingerGuy
Good morning - I just replaced my gasket and tape! It wasn't too bad. The worst part was cleaning off the old goo material. Mine seemed to go on pretty easily - I got the old tape off, cleaned up the bed as best as I could, then just lined up the holes along the side and worked my way around the case. I have played a little with the unit since, and everything seems good. Good luck! SingerGuy! The rubber gasket has once again started to come off my Hcx. +Maingray
Continuous problem with this poor design. Buy aquarium sealant, glue it on and be done with it. Mind the buttons! Quote Link to comment

tomc61
A quick search of the forums reveals this http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...t&p=3745897 I've personally found this to be the best solution I bought a Vista HCx over 2 years ago and had no problems until just recently the adhesive turned to snot. I tried silicone caulk and several kinds of double sided tape and glues. Nothing would stick to the rubber. Then I read this thread and the one quoted. I removed all of the tape, including the clear tape over the case seam, cleanded it with WD-40 (to remove the glue) and isopropyl alcohol (to remove the WD-40), sanded both the rubber piece and the plastic case, cleaned everything with alcohol again, glued it back together with Loctite Extreme, put rubber bands around the rubber piece it to hold it against the case, and let it set for about a day and a half. It appears to be a total success. The Loctite Extreme looks like it stuck to the rubber and case, but I'm afraid to pull on it and test it. Edited August 11, 2009 by tomc61 Quote Link to comment
+phiscocks
Thanks for the info. It looks like the key is to scuff up the rubber gasket for good adhesion. Quote Link to comment
