+jthomp000 Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Hi all, Was installing maps on my Colorado 400t this morning when I accidentally deleted what I thought was my City Navigator file. In actuallity, it was my preloaded topo basemap. No, I didn't have the unit software backed up, but I will do so when I fix this issue. My question's are, 1. Can I download the basemap file from anywhere? I know it's a large file, but someone/somewhere has to have it available. I could not find anything on Garmin's website 2. I have a friend who has a Colorado 400t as well. Is it possible to copy from is unit to my unit the basemap software? will that cause a license issue with the unit? Thanks for any help you can pass along! Quote
+splashy Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 You can copy the maps from your friend's, without any problems. Quote
+Curioddity Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 (edited) Now this is actually a topic I'd like to know more about. I have a 400t with v3.10 firmware: If I delete the pre-installed topo maps, will the internal memory be available for other maps? Is doing so simply a matter of removing the gmapprom.img file (2.63GB) from the /Garmin/ folder? Can I simply restore that file (if I remove it) to return the Garmin to a "stock maps" condition if, for example, I decide to sell it? What about all the foreign language .gtt files in the /Garmin/Text/ folders? What are the consequences for removing them? I use City Navigator maps almost exclusively for the urban geocaching I do, and I use the TOPO U.S. 24K series when I go off-road. I have the DVDs for both and I just don't even use the base maps that came pre-loaded. Pete Edited August 2, 2009 by Curioddity Quote

If you want to add more maps to your Oregon, just buy a memory card and install. Quote
+jthomp000 Posted August 3, 2009 Author Posted August 3, 2009 You can copy the maps from your friend's, without any problems. I tried this morning and was unable to to copy over his file. I keep getting a corrupted warning on the file i'm trying to copy over. I've tried multiple times so there must be something wrong. dadgum... This is so frustrating. It appears that my GPS'r will work fine with CityNavigator and all that.. I just can't find a way to get the pre-loaded topo maps back on. I have an email out to Garmin; looks like I'll have to wait to hear what they say.... Quote
+fegan Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I have an email out to Garmin; looks like I'll have to wait to hear what they say.... They will want you to send the GPS back to them for repair...expect to be without your GPS at least 1 week. Quote
+Whimppeys Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I had this problem with my oregon 400t and Garmin said that I would have to send the unit in. I read the forum and as they said I was able to copy all of the files directly from a friends Oregon. I was'nt sure which files to copy. So I copied all of them. Maybe you are leaving an important file out or maybe you should remove the new maps and try again. When you are done, keep a back up of your GPS files on your computer. Maybe it will help if you make the same mistake again. Good luck. Quote

Thanks for any help you can pass along! Can you clarify something? Did you delete the Base Map or the Topo Map? There is a base map: gmapsupp.img, ~273M and there is a Topo map: gmapprom.img, ~2,767M. Later you say that the CN works but that you can't get the Topo back on there. Are you trying to put them both on the internal memory? The 400T has 4G of internal memory. The CN and Topo will not both fit in the 4G. You'll have to get an SD card and put one or the other on there. Check this thread for additional information. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...=223617&hl= Hope this helps.
