BlueDeuce
Not up here in Iowa, but after recently losing one I moved it some 30 feet and replaced it with a cheapo container. If it stays secure I'll try again with another ammocan. Quote Link to comment
StarBrand
I've only ever lost 2 ammo can caches to muggles. 1 Scattered the contents on site - the other disappeard with everything. I replaced both and the replacent can is staying put. Quote Link to comment
cantuland
Wichita, Kansas area: I once had a huge container turn up missing for a second time. Someone took the huge container and left all the goodies, lots of them, in a black trash bag tucked under a nearby scrap piece of metal. I thought, "They stole my huge container again, but how nice of them to preserve the contents of the cache. Even the log book is there." I replaced the container with another huge one, moved the coordinates about 30 feet, and changed the listing to a members only cache. That's the only one I have that is members only. The cache has survived for quite some time now. I hate making members only caches because not everyone can enjoy them, but I don't want to be the supplier of free big ammo boxes either. +caverdoc
Last year there were two of the .50 caliber cans that turned up missing near Clinton Lake. In both instances the cache contents were left on site in different containers. I went ahead and replaced the ammo cans out of my own pocket-they were some of the first I found-and the caches have been OK since. caverdoc Quote Link to comment
headlight41
One hider around here has lost 9 amo cans in a year. Going to have to avoid using the words "ammo can" in the description and/or use a phony name for hides. Quote Link to comment
Former Hawkeye
Over the years I have lost "cans" in the Fargo/Moorhead area. Most of my ammo cans are now placed on private property where permission for caching has been granted in every case. Its amazing that people knowing they would be tresspassing if not caching as for now put an end to missing cans. Just a suggestion... Quote Link to comment
