jbrooks0616 Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Sorry, this is our first time geocaching and I am not sure what all the letters mean on some of the logs. Thought maybe it was clues or something. For example: TFTC or TN LN STL OR TFTF. Thanks!! Quote

+Mike & Kate Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Here's another couple acronyms that I didn't see listed in the link: FTF / STF / TTF: First to Find / Second to Find / Third to Find If I think of any others, I'll post them as well. Quote

+DavidMac Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 For example: TFTC or TN LN STL OR TFTF. Those are all shorthand for, "I am too lazy and inconsiderate to write a real log." Quote
+Tavisman Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 (edited) Those are all shorthand for, "I am too lazy and inconsiderate to write a real log." Where has it said in this thread, or any other thread on acronyms, that all you should write in an online log is one or two acronyms? Edited July 16, 2009 by Tavisman Quote
+Puppy Dawg Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 COW= Chunk of wood SPOR= Suspicious pile of rocks Quote

GreenLantern5000 Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 BACON That's bacon. It's tasty and from a pig. I jus tlike Bacon. It's not really a geocaching term, per se..... Quote
knowschad Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 (edited) I'd love to find some bacon-print duct tape. I'd cover a jar with it and put it out as a cache for bacon lovers! Edited July 17, 2009 by knowschad Quote

Some examples: NASA OPEC NATO Words where you say each letter are not acronyms, but initialisms. Some examples: FBI NBA TFTC Technically though, acronyms are a subset of initialisms so all acronyms are initialisms but not all initialisms are acronyms. I can remember drawing Venn diagrams to show how different items were sets/subsets of each other. Can't believe I still remember that, seeing that it was 15 years ago. Quote
+EvanMinn Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 For example: TFTC or TN LN STL OR TFTF. Those are all shorthand for, "I am too lazy and inconsiderate to write a real log." Hmm, that thinking seems to imply that the cache is so wonderful that it is absolutely impossible that in someone's subjective opinion, that is exactly all the cache deserves. So impossible the only logical conclusion is that there must be something wrong with the cacher themselves. Sounds more like emotion than logic to me. Quote
+Atlas Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 So, TLA is not really a three letter acronym for "three letter acronym"? greenworldfeather Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Basically, just type in "Geocaching terms" in google. Here are some: http://www.todayscacher.com/2006/mar/humor5.asp http://www.geocachingsolutions.com/geo_terms.aspx http://www.geocaching.com/about/glossary.aspx There. +geodarts Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 About the only acronym I sometimes use is FFRTFAWWAD. And only if the previous finder has used a lot of wah-hoos and smileys. Quote
