Hi everyone,

ive been geoaching now for 12 months and have just been reading about benchmarking on the Groundspeak web site. Please can you tell me if these are world wide like geocaches or just in the US? I live in Manchester in the UK and would love to give this a try it sounds really interesting

Sorry, the benchmarks listed on geocaching.com database are derived from a database maintained by a US government agency, the National Geodetic Survey, so the vast majority of the benchmarks are in the US and some territories.

You might give this site a try on your side of the ocean: Trigpointing UK. Happy Hunting!

Thanks for your advice, i will give it a try

As already mentioned, for trig pillars, which are the most visible type of triangulation station, see http://www.trigpointinguk.com/

For levelling marks, of which there are many hundreds of thousands in the UK, see http://www.bench-marks.org.uk/

The Ordnance Survey Legacy Control Database can be found at http://benchmarks.ordnancesurvey.co.uk
