+MuddyPaws4 Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 We are fairly new to Geocaching, and I was wondering how others print the cache information. My husband likes to download the caches right to the GPS, which is fine and actually very convenient. *I* like to have them on paper sometimes; re-reading clues while he is using the GPS is easier and the kids like to "decode" the hints on paper. When searching online for caches in a particular area and generating a "list", is there a way to print that list at once, rather than going into each one and printing individually? This seems to take so long, I was hoping someone had found a shortcut... Thanks in advance! Peg Quote
GreenLantern5000 Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Thanks for asking this! I had the exact same question!!!! Quote
+StarBrand Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Short answer: no way on the website to do that. Long answer: GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife) has a macro that can print multiple caches in an excel like spreadsheet and at least 1 other software (name escapes me now) will print a "summary" of caches contained in a GPX file. +SgtSue Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 My geobuddies HATE my PDA, as a result I print out sheets when we go together. Currently I use the GSAK condensed HTML print option. It prints the info similar to the print friendly cache page. There are several options including number of logs and whether or not to include pictures. Makes them happy and it's easy for me. Quote
+PJ-FredX-Tuck Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 In the past I'd print them as a PDF (have to bring up the map by itself and then print the map separately to PDF - for some reason the bigger map doesn't show up on the original web page). Then I'd piece them together (deleting the mostly blank pages-- there are usually one per cache log) before I print them out double sided-- but I'd do this at the office on the laser printer. To do this, you really need a full version of Adobe Acrobat.. just the Adobe Reader version won't allow you to delete pages. Lately though I'm making use of my Sony Reader (like a Kindle). I increase the font size to maximum then print to PDF,then copy the PDFs to my Reader, and view in landscape more (this gives you the largest possible view of a PDF file). +Knight2000 Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Now that I think of it this should be an option available for premium members. Mark multiple caches (like on a bookmark list) and choose to print the vital info in a printer friendly .pdf format. The gpx file already has the info. As a premium member you shouldn't need to buy GSAK to get a reasonably sized printed page. Quote
+Jeep4two Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 @Knight: Good idea - in addition add the ability to put multiple pages on one page when printed (4 up for example). . . makes for small print but saves trees When I used to print I had a printer that would do N-up printing - most cache pages will print in 4 pages, and I would set to 4 up and double sided. @LingrenFamily: I think GSAK is probably the easiest way to achieve your goal for the time being. Just pull your caches over and make your selections - if your printer supports N-up printing you can try printing multiple pages on one (like 4-up) to save paper. Side note: Even if you don't have any fancy software on your PDA you can also print your descriptions from GSAK to PDF (using something like the free CutePDF pdf creator). Then drop the PDF file(s) to your PDF compatible device like smart phone or other compatible device. Quote
+WoodsWoman Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Has anyone else had a problem with getting the full first page to print when choosing the 5 0r 10 log page in .pdf format? I have had that problem repeatedly for several caches. Thanks. Quote
