+GrateBear Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 I've purchased a new laptop and am wondering if I can transfer MapSource from my old laptop to the new one. I tried loading it to an external hard drive, and from there to the new laptop, but that didn't work. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks. Quote
snowfleurys Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 The disk which came with your GPSr would be the easiet way, but also see: http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-...-with-your-gps/ Quote
+GrateBear Posted July 5, 2009 Author Posted July 5, 2009 Have the disk, but the new laptop is a netbook, so no cd/dvd drive. I'm hoping to put off buying an external drive for a while. Fortunately, will still have the old laptop for a while. Quote
Motorcycle_Mama Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 What about copying the DVD installation disk to a flash drive and installing it on the netbook that way. Quote
+Walts Hunting Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 One of my continuing grips is people come here and ask questions that could be answered with a minimum of work themselves. For instance. If you Google Garmin Mapsoure you get this http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209 follow the instructions and it is done Actually that is a gripe about people in general. Sorry, now I will get off my soapbox. Quote
Motorcycle_Mama Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 But that will not get you the maps. It will only get you the program shell with a basemap. And that link alone will not work without a previous version of the program installed on the computer as stated in the very first warning note posted on that page. Sorry to rant, but you are wrong on this one. Quote
+Jeep4two Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 If you have a home network you can also just place the installation CD/DVD into a drive on another computer, share the drive (giving Everyone permissions) and then browse the network to that computer/drive and install form there. I just picked up a netbook and included an external CD/DVD/Burner to my purchase list. They run about $60 for the slim models that power off the USB ports - might be a good investment. The Flash Drive will work too - just copy the entire DVD to a directory to the flash drive (provided you have sufficient space on your flash drive) and run the seutp.exe from there. Quote
+GrateBear Posted July 7, 2009 Author Posted July 7, 2009 What about copying the DVD installation disk to a flash drive and installing it on the netbook that way. Thanks--I tried but failed. My greatest pc talent is turning the dadgum thing on and off. Guess I'll have to wait until I can get an external CD/DVD drive. Quote
