DacotahM Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I have a DeLorme PN-20 that runs on two side-by-side AA batteries. I want a rechargable lithium ion battery that will work safely in this unit. Any links or recommendations? Quote
+Team Veverca Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 It depends on your location they could be great or not if you use it in winter. AFAIK (if they didn't change in the last few years) li-ion battery have some issues in cold weather. I use ni-mh 2500 pack and it works like a charm. Quote
+StarBrand Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Really - the NiMH rechargeables are great - especially the newer hybrid ones that hold thier charge for long periods. A well conditioned set of NiMH fully charged usually gives my GPS the max time. Quote
+JoesBar Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I think Delorme sells a lithium ion battery pack for this unit. Quote
+Wild Thing 73 Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I recommend that you stay with akaline batteries..........They are cheap, more power then rechar, no need to buy the junk that is needed to charge and they last longer.....I have been through the challenge...stay safe. Quote
+Chrysalides Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I recommend that you stay with akaline batteries..........They are cheap, more power then rechar, no need to buy the junk that is needed to charge and they last longer.....I have been through the challenge...stay safe. NiMH pays for itself (including the charger) in a very short time compared to disposables. It's more environmentally friendly too. But back to the OP's question : the PN-20 takes CR-V3 batteries. There's a review in Amazon that says not all CR-V3 are compatible, however, and to check the forums - I assume the author meant the DeLorme forums. Quote
+Jeep4two Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 +1 for NiMH batteries. I've used Alkalines and NiMH batteries. In my experience there's no comparison. The alkaline batteries wear out quicker than a 2500 mAh set with a full charge. While the NiMH costs about 4 times that of an alkaline (prices do vary - so that's an estimate) the typical NiMH will give you good service for a minimum of a few hundred charges with longer serviceable life with the better conditioning chargers. Even when you consider the investment of a good charger there's no way to come out ahead with disposable alkaline batteries versus rechargeable NiMH. I've used Duracell 2050 mAh, Duracell 2650 mAh, Lenmar 2000 mAh and Lenmar 2500 mAh. All give great performance and won't give significant problems in cold weather. Of course you should check for compatibility with your device. Quote
