+MSalisbury
(Try this one again - last two attempts have resulted in blank entries) Found an interesting TB the other day. All it consisted of was a 3x5 index card hand-lettered in a childish scrawl, with a plastic Nickelodeon iCarly bracelet attached. What was interesting was that when I tried to log the TB I found out that the actual TB was a really nice silver seahorse pendant with an officila TB tag. Apparently, someone in the recent past had liked the bracelet so much that they decided to keep it. Now I've heard of people keeping TBs - that's one of the risks of releasing them into the wild. But I've never heard of someone making a (very bad) replacement and putting it back trying to pass it off as the original! TB2JYN3 Was orignally Crees Breeze. After discussing it with the owner we decided to re-release it with a new medallion. I made up a replacement tag for it, and the idea is to send it back out and ask people to add stuff to it. But still, the audacity of people amaze me at times. Sorry for the vent. Edited June 12, 2009 by MSalisbury Quote Link to comment

+mfamilee
Wow, I'm surprised the actual travel bug wasn't taken too. Quote Link to comment
Knight-Errant
We had one of our travel bugs (an inexpensive toy truck) apparently replaced with a small bottle of fuel additive. Once we were informed of the "trade", we included a note to the effect that we hope that either the trade was out of ignorance of how travel bugs work or that the child (however old) really enjoyed the toy. +MI_CO
I had this happen to me with my first travel bug! I had a picture of the traveler on the log page. Someone found it and logged that the traveler was not as shown in the picture. The original was a small car. The replacement was a red, plastic sun that had seen better days. I wonder if whoever took it knows that it costs a whopping $1.49 at Target and that I altered it before launching. The unaltered state is way cooler. I am thankful for three things; 1) I was alerted that the traveler was swapped, 2) the bug was dropped in a cache only 6 miles from home so I easily retrieved it, and 3) the dog tag was not taken! +Renegade Knight
Our local cache maggot made a sport of switching TB's and Tags. The guy is willing to go to any end of the earth for "The Cause". Quote Link to comment
+The Blorenges
This is just one of the reasons why it's a good idea to put a photo of your TB on its home page. MrsB Quote Link to comment
+BlueDeuce
Fortunately travel bugs are pretty easy to fix-up. I've changed travelers and laminated goal cards mid-stream on some of mine. Most bug finders are happy to help out. Quote Link to comment
