BiggSizz
I have a Garmin Vista HCX and am considering buying a topo map. I use GPS for geocaching and only do basic to moderate trails. I am mainly interested in having a map with lots of trails, do many topo maps offer these? I am living in California, any suggestions? Thanks Quote Link to comment
NordicMan
Hi BiggSizz check this site out http://www.gpsfiledepot.com Quote Link to comment
+Redwoods Mtn Biker
You can also find track files for many individual trails online. Try searching for gpx + name of trail or park. MotionBased.com may have the most, but it's a bit of a pain to learn to use it. Quote Link to comment
Glenn W
The Southwest and Northwest US topo maps at http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/109/ and http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/134/ are very good (20 ft contours), and are free (or cheap if you care to make a donation). I use these more than the commercial-grade Garmin 2008 Topo maps. They won't display shaded terrain on Mapsource but that's no big deal for me. My 60CSx and your Vista HCX can't display shaded terrain, so it's not much of a sacrifice. I've also tried this map http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/28/ but I didn't like the lack of street names. Edited June 9, 2009 by Glenn W Quote Link to comment
