+captainmath
Can anyone help a PA cacher who is flying into Dallas/FtWorth on 7/16 and has a few days with my family to visit NE Texas, and possibly nearby OK, LA, Arkansas? I'm looking for suggestions for fun things to do and interesting places to visit. We're a family of five and like historical and other locations of interest and I'm also hoping to pick off caches in the states listed before heading west to San Angelo for the beginning of the next week. +Trucker Lee
Into history! A prominent Texas cacher has THIS site set up where you can locate historical markers by county name and other means. EARTHCACHE in Kilgore TX. One of 46 active in the state at this time. Many museums. Including one in Terrell, where British Glider pilots were trained in WW2. Many caches, even after you delete the LPC variety. A cache series in the San Angelo area, when you get out there, based on ghost towns. Keep in mind that temperatures in your time frame will be approaching 100 daily. Drink plenty of water, carbonated and alcohol beverages will help dry you out. If you feel dizzy while outside, get in the shade get cooled off quickly. Heat stroke is nothing to joke with. Quote Link to comment
+Ashallond
There is a GPS adventure exhibit in south central Arkansas...that might be fun to go to. Quote Link to comment
+9Key
I have quite a few hides in the Clarksville and Paris areas of northeast Texas (I have family in the area). North of Clarksville on TX 37 almost to the Red River is the very historic area of Jonesboro where I have a cache - here. Davey Crocket, Sam Houston, and even Stephen F Austin entered the great state of Texas here. Hard to believe that there once was a bustling town at the spot, but there was. Also at the site is what is believed to be one of the first Anglo burials in Texas. Clarksville is one of the oldest towns in Texas and they have recently remodeled their courthouse and spent some money on the town square. A little ways into Oklahoma try and visit the Fort Towson area. It's *well* worth the drive IMO. Do a Google search for "Fort Towson, OK" using the Google search on this site. The old fort is fantastic and the Doaksville Historic Site is great as well. Quote Link to comment
+captainmath
These sound like some great suggestions... I'd love the ghost town series and I really like caches that take you to "weird, old, abandoned" places. Quote Link to comment
