+TheBeanTeam
This post in another thread got me to thinking about changes in the landscape. I started this thread so as to not further hijack that one. This is intended to be a then & now type photo thread from a benchmarkers perspective. Here is mine: I went looking for OA1091 - SILTCOOS LOT. The area has changed so dramatically that I had to get help here writing a new go to description for report of the station to the NGS. The area in 1936 is clear cut slopes and a lookout tower. In 2008 it is dense coastal forest. In this case only 72 years have passed to create a dramatic change. 1936 ( if you look close the benchmark can be seen below the center of the tower) 2008 Other area views from 1936 can be seen on this geocache page. Find a then photo and then compare to what is going on there today. If it is an impressive change post your find to the Waymarking category Photos Then & Now. Quote Link to comment
Papa-Bear-NYC
Here's a locally well known boundary monument on the Canadian line in northern NH. The first 2 photos date from around 1915 and show the 2 monuments before and after they were reset in a concrete base. The original placement was done in 1848. The photos are from the IBC publication (1922) detailing the resurvey of the line in the northeast from about 1912 - 1920. This last photo is one I took a few years ago: That red car in the back is my rental. The station is QH0525 Edited May 20, 2009 by Papa-Bear-NYC Quote Link to comment
