The Stoned Wookie Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I know there are some cachers that are really into the coins. I've heard stories of people paying over $100 for a single coin before. Now my curiosity made me wonder how many cachers will pay some crazy price just to get a coin or coins. Please select a range unless you want to say the actual price. $0.00 to $25 $25.01 to $50 $50.01 to $100 $100.01 to $150 $150.01 to $200 $200.01 to $300 $300.01 to $400 $400.01 to $500 Above $500 I paid about $51 for a "dark side of the cache" coin. Then I paid $47 for a 5th anniversary compass rose set. Quote
+Howlingmoon Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I'll have to see about the "set" prices. I haven't bought very many sets yet. Maybe $40 for a set ? The most expensive single coin was the gold version of the Anthus Laptop that I bought on ebay for $47.10 plus shipping. lol Quote
+nefesh Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 The only set I've bought is Cache Attrtibutes: Difficult Climbing. I think it was high 40's. I can't wait to see it! Quote
+chaosmanor Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I (Jim) have never paid more than the issue price for any geocoin. I've gotten a few in trade, and gave away a little more value than the issue price was, for a particularly good coin. The largest set I've bought at once was the Ranger216 Christmas series a couple of years ago. That was seven coins; probably ran about $110 for two sets. Now Sharon (the other half of the team) has bought a few things on ebay, but never any outrageous price. I flat refuse to buy any geocoins on an auction site. We have lots of geocoins for trading, though Quote
+slowdownracer Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 The most I ever paid - $85 + $7 s+h on ebay for a GCC Sept. 2005 Red Selective Availability geocoin. It was the only one of the GCC coins I didn't have. Anyone else here have a complete up-to-date set of all the GCC coins? Quote
+Tha Saint Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 (edited) A quick rundown of what I've paid for coins : $24 for Dark Side of the Cache $16.50 for Medusa AE $15 for 2007 Compass Rose All the other coins Ive purchased have been $12 or less. The cheapest Ive spent on a coin was $4. And I have never bought a coin off of Ebay.. Edited May 17, 2009 by Tha Saint Quote

I paid a little over 100.00 for the black and gold EARTH TURTLE....it isn't even trackable.....Good thing I am a die hard Pittsburgh sports fan..... GO Penguins.... Quote
+AtlantaGal Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I'm trying to remember. I think close to $50 for a 2005 Delugly. I know I've bid up to $70 for the garmin Chicago, but never won one. As far as sets, I can't quite recall. Probably around $50 for a set of 4 on an original vendor release. Quote
+BVnLJ Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I paid $138 for a Delfts Blauw Windmill, and around $60 for a set of "make new friends but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold" coins. Quote
SCP-173 Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I paid $120 for a single coin and the only set of coins I've ever bought was some 2005 Calgary coins, which only set me back about $12 for the three of 'em. Quote
+Trick or Treat Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 (edited) I had been wanting a mermaid for a while when I saw this one in someone's collection. I paid $45 for it, but haven't seen one since. Not sure if it's a limited edition or sample; either way I love it. It's sparkly! [/img] Edited May 17, 2009 by Trick or Treat Quote
+teamhaynes Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Not me... but someone just dropped 227 on a special edition 5th Anniversary Compass Rose production sample on Ebay. Quote

I don't mind the last minute bidders so much, its the ones that bid more than me that get my goat $112 for a Antique Silver Crystal Fairy Edited May 18, 2009 by haysonics Quote
+drneal Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 I feel like such a skinflint...either $24 or $28 for a silver fedaration coin (non trackable, but a neat coin!) ILYK Quote
+Team JSAM Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Personally 57.00 was the most I ever paid. I saw a Moun10bike V1 go for over 2K on ebay a few years back. Quote
+ECplus3 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Hmm. Just recently I paid $50 for a 2006 Dutch LE antique silver. I made trades to get both of my Delft Blauws, but I'm sure the total coin value I traded was over $100 each. The most I've paid for a set was $71 for the da Vinci challenge set. But just recently I dropped $458 at one time (plus shipping) for 23 coins. Boy did THAT blow my coin budget for that month!!! Quote

Now my curiosity made me wonder how many cachers will pay some crazy price just to get a coin or coins. Before I knew better I paid $125 for a set of Caching in the Seasons that was still available from the owner for $40! Yup, felt like a total dork for it!! I was once willing to pay $700 for bag of coins that included a Moun10bike v2 but was outbid, thank goodness! Now $10 is about the average I'm willing to pay for a coin, before s&h but will still trade multiple coins to get one hi valu. Quote
+LadeBear68 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 I think I have paid 160, 150 and 125 for Tsunrisebey coins. Yes, I am an earth turtle junkie. I also think I paid 150 for a charity coin but that was for a great cause. Quote
+drneal Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 forgot about the charity auction coin, chase your dreams, paid more than what I paid for the federation coin, but that was purchased in honor of my wife, and the price paid is between she and I. ILYK Quote
+WRITE SHOP ROBERT Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 107.50 plus shipping...but I'd only ever pay a price anywhere near that when it's a fundraiser for a specific cause that I support. Around regular price for every other Coin I've bought. Quote

Then I paid $47 for a 5th anniversary compass rose set. I paid over 100 (not by much) for a coin at the GeocoinFest last october, it was part of the silent auction. It was the '08 Earth Turtle that was black and gold and there were 10 made. 2 went to the auction and others were being left around the event. For a set I paid above 500 for. There were 62 coins in total, the version 2 Geo-Jellies gold coins. 2 of each were made, one for the auction and the other went to each cacher who had made a bean. Both were for charity, and if not for that, than the most paid for a coin would probably be about $15 including shipping, and for a set probably around $45. Quote
+cache_in_hand Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I can think of 5 occasions of $100 or more and 2 of $200 or more for single coins. We have bought multiple coin collections for more than that, but this is just for single coins, and yes some were for charitable causes. Quote
+DJ.J.ROCK Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 i saw today 1 coin go for over 100 on the e-place,, wow!! Quote

The ad didn't mention how thick they were (guessing around 10mm) to allow room for the working compass. Most I've paid for coins? I think I paid $250 or $300 for a Compass Rose Sample one time and over $100 for a Yemon Yime version. Also paid just over $100 for a 2005 Compass Rose. Quote
+007BigD Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 (edited) Tryin to think waaaay back here, cuz I havent went hogwild on coins since I first started into them...
