+obsidianspider
I was just deleting some GPX files off my Oregon and thought to myself, I wonder if anyone's ever deleted the main IMG file from their device? I made a backup of my nuvi 760 when I bought it, not sure why as I rarely interface it with my pc, but with how much I plug my Oregon into a computer, I haven't made a backup of it. I'll be doing so when I get home. Do you have a backup of your GPSr "just in case"? Quote Link to comment
Yearofthegoat
Yes. After every trip I download all the track records and file them, and then update my POIs with any new ones (like car parks). The only data left on the GPSr are POIs and maps. I upload any planned routes / waypoints / caches before I set off. Quote Link to comment

+obsidianspider
Not a bad idea to back up logs/tracks. I was more concerned about the files like the big-azz gmapprom.img file. 2.6GB and I doubt Garmin will just give me another one if I mess it up. Quote Link to comment

I copied my Coloarado files to my PC and a disk just in case. I am carefull when moving or deleting from my GPS'r but it only take oone mishap Quote Link to comment
+2Wheel'in
It's happened before.......deleting that gmapprom.img file . There was a response in another forum thread concerning that very thing...I immediately backed up my entire Oregon mass storage file(s) . Bill Quote Link to comment
+wkmccall
Yep, everytime I make up a set of maps to push to the GPS, I'll copy over the .img file and save it to have for another time since pushing a selected set of states takes SO LONG.. Quote Link to comment

Mmm - guess what I'm doing right after I hit that "Add Reply" button... Thanks for the reminder! Quote Link to comment
guggie
Your tracks are automatically backed up to the microSD card in a Vista HCx. Quote Link to comment
Grasscatcher
Your tracks are automatically backed up to the microSD card in a Vista HCx. According to the Vista Hcx manual......logging tracks to data card is an "option" , not an "automatic" action. User must choose that option setting before tracks will be logged to the card, and therefore be "backed up". To the OP...... Murphy's law says, Everything Electronic, Mechanical, Human, Etc, that CAN screw up , WILL screw up .............! SO...............Back Up.........it's cheap, quick, easy, insurance. I bought it at REI and thay said no problem so today I went to the REI store and exchanged it for a new one(I'm also a REI member)no questions ask. So to answer your question. I WILL NOW!!
