This mark can be found on page 167 (173-334 Google Books) of Special Pub #18. Some one at NGS must be editing a lot of previously UNK dates. Thanks, MEL

OK, Klemmer's wildflower picture gallery ready for opening day. I wouldn't say every flower picture was taken while benchmark hunting, but certainly some were. And I would always have had at least one GPS with me, so that counts too, right? There are several sub-albums, so dig down a level, if you want. And of course there are many pages. Click on the photo for a larger version. Resolution has been reduced & more compression done for space & download. Just ask if you would like the full resolution version (4-5MB). Some ID's are still in process; assistance in ID appreciated. Most from Central to Southern California.

How about posting a link to Klemmer's wildflower gallery? We would really like to see them.

Hi everyone! Happy New Year to all!

Since Shirley asked, here's the link to my Wildflower gallery:

I posted it sometime ago, probably in this link. Glad to post it again.

As I wrote once before:

I'll see if I have anything to add since I updated it last. Enjoy!

I went through cache valley in Idaho/Utah. Found a number that had never been found by anyone. Some were deep in the weeds, others were buried and dug out. Here was a few from my day.

Welcome to the benchmark hunting forum BlueRajah.

Thank you for sharing the pictures of your good time hunting those marks. Looks like you had a good time and that is all that counts in this hobby.

We really have a great day when we can find those that have not been recovered since monumented. And then there are those Old Ones that we all seek....

Happy hunting!

Thnx for that pic. I used to live in Nebraska and the site of clouds all about the same size and shape spread evenly for far as you can see in all directions and all moving the same direction on a brite sunny day is one of my favorite memories - i've tried to describe that to people - like a heard of clouds migrating ... hehe - anyway thnx

It is time to bring this back up to get everyone raring to go get some good pictures since ole' man winter is on the wane.

We actually couldn't wait any longer and when a spell of nice dry weather had occurred, we went over into Mohave County in AZ. south of Cane Beds, Az. and close to Colorado City, AZ. (Don't you just love the names?)

We were benching a little and caching a little.

Now here is RM 1 view of it starting to slide down the hill. So, does this mean the RM 1 is disturbed, destroyed or just other? Hmmm, good question.

Ohhh, it seems as UNK1 has tagged along and since he recovered this one, we will not.

By the way, thank you all who have posted pictures to this thread. I look and enjoy all of them.

Shirley~

CallawayMT inspired me to go back through my Hawaii week photos (I left Alaska to spend the first week of the year on Oahu...)

Waikiki is flush with elevation stations and those lovely little bronze disks - here's a few...

Few locations are as lovely as TU1008 Makapuu Point Light.

There were several other marks we found nearby as well while up top.

This point is in a rain shadow, with cactus all over the crest of the ridge.

It was eerie to walk down the ramp in front of the hangars on Ford Island, where

the concrete is still pockmarked from that never-forgotten event in December 1941...

The Pearl Harbor Ford Island Control Tower was a witness to the attacks that day,

and is now a part of the Pacific Aviation Museum (and due to be fully refurbished).

This is adjacent to the Arizona / Oklahoma / Missouri Memorials, and all are a part of the

World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument. Truly a 'benchmark' with history...

My father & I spent the better part of a morning here at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.

The Punchbowl, Honolulu's most-visited attraction, is a sobering place well-deserving of a lingering visit.

TU1251 Honolulu Nat'l Cemetery Flagpole watches over this place of eternal rest.

So many marks, so many beaches, so much sunshine - and so much history!

This is the location of one that I had published on 4/8/2010 and since then no one has bothered to visit it even thought there are geocaches nearby. It's a bit difficult to see it if there's no one to give you a boost to get on the boulder so maybe that's why. It's not as dramatic as the photos above but it's my favorite only because not many people know it's there and it's not listed on any databases that I know of.

Here are a couple of shots for a mark we found while on vacation. S 170

The first is looking down from the top of the cut. Being an active RR we decided it was not wise to try and get close to the mark.

The second picture shows why we didn't approach the mark.

No place to go when the train goes past!

This shows why a good telephoto lens comes in so handy. It was taken from the top of the cut on the east side (right side in the picture of the long view).

Spent some time exploring along Chugach National Forest's Portage Pass Trail,

and managed to traverse the rough high ground atop the pass to reach UW7413,

a 1914 triangulation station named "BULWARK". It was an invigorating hike on a

unusually clear and dry summer evening. These pictures were taken at about 8pm.

Shakespeare Glacier lies to the south about 3/4 miles beyond the mark. The sound

of running water is constant here on a summer day. This site averages 197" of rain

and 241" of snow annually, with the pass only snow-free from mid-June to mid-October.
