Calling All Triton Owners...Help Requested

Hello, I'm a happy CO400t owner and my friend is getting a Magellan Triton 1500.

 

My question: Can he geocache with it?

 

If so how and what would he need. I'm considering buying him a geocaching.com membership, but do not want to waste money if he can't use it. What do y'all think? Thanks for the help.

Does your friend know the term "Customer Support"? Magellan doesn't. Worst I have ever seen or heard of.

Yes, He can geocache with it. As a former Triton owner, I can vouch for that, and the lack of Magellan support. The included software works pretty well, and can read .loc and .gpx files without doing any conversions. There are also some really easy to use tools for creating maps and such without a whole lot of knowledge.

 

www.tritonforum.com is a great community for Triton owners to get info and help. Transferring maps and cache data is easy as well. It's just the hardware can be not as durable or reliable as the Garmins.

I have a Triton 400 and love it, it does paperless caching! Triton are very easy to learn to use. They are compatible with Nat Geo TOPO maps. I think they are great for geocaching

Well i cache with a T400 also an love it. An maby im the exception but i had good luck with there support. That being said i have always used a Garmin an i have had just about all of them except the new ones an have always had good luck. I have used Garmin support be for also an it sucked just like Magellan. I will quit singing now an say yes the Triton works great for caching. I would not go back to a Garmin.

I have the 1500 also. I haven't had any problem caching with it. However, as soon as you change ANYTHING in the GPSr you can no longer synch with Vantage Point software. You have to clear the memory. Which means you lose some functionality. They SAY they are coming out with a fix, but it's been a LOOOOOOOONG time in coming.

I've got the Triton 2000, and it will work in geocaching but it is laborious uploading cache waypoints. Tech support is all but non-existent. Finally bought a DeLorme PN-40 GPS and much, much happier with that GPS.

 

No more Magellan's for me!

I had a Triton 1500 gave to me by someone who didn't like it.

 

Works out good for me, I love using the little thing.

 

It's not as intuitive to use as my Colorado is, it took a little bit of learning to get everything down pat with it.

 

I really don't have anything bad to say about the Triton, it does what I want it to do, and often times it does it better than the Colorado does.
